Pete Wicks and Jowita Przystał left the semi-final stage of the competition, after a dance against Tasha Ghouri and Aljaž Škorjanec during the eleventh presentation of the results of the series.

Both couples returned to the ballroom, with Tasha and Aljaž performing their waltz to Aretha Franklin’s (You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman.

Pete and Jowita then performed their Argentine tango to The Verve’s Bittersweet Symphony.

After both couples danced a second time, the judges issued their verdicts, with Craig Revel Horwood starting off by saving Tasha and Aljaž.

Motsi Mabuse and Anton Du Beke also saved Tasha and Aljaž, giving them the majority of votes and signaling the end of Pete and Jowita’s time on the show.

Chief judge Shirley Ballas also agreed and said she would have decided to save Tasha and Aljaž.

When Tess asked him about his time in the competition, Pete said: “It’s been crazy.” I’ve been pretty honest about the fact that I didn’t necessarily want to do this (strictly) in the first place, but everyone else wanted me to do it, and I’m so glad I did!

‘You don’t always have to be the best, but if you enjoy something, why shouldn’t you try it? I did my best from day one, I said I was expecting a penny, I was expecting a pound and I did it, it’s been lovely.’

Addressing her Polish dance partner Jowita, she added: “There are many things I’m going to get out of this, but one of the most special is you (to Jowita) and I mean that, because you are one of the most incredible people, no only as a dancer, but as a person.

“You have been a ray of sunshine to me. You have helped me overcome things in the last three months that I didn’t think I could do and you made me believe in myself and that means more to me than anything else.

Jowita said: ‘I just want to say thank you, thank you for the trust you have given me from day one.

‘I know it wasn’t easy, but with your hard work, your commitment and your heart, which is the most amazing thing, you were winning every week!

‘For me, every dance was special… even the Cha Cha in Blackpool!

“Remember the first day you said, ‘I’m not going to stay in this competition long because I can’t dance,’ but now I can tell you, yes, you can.”
