Single presidential candidate Tim Scott has given new insight into his still-obscure love life – months after revealing he had a girlfriend waiting for him at home.
The comment came as the Republican senator — who presented himself as a God-fearing 30-year-old virgin while seeking a seat on the Charleston City Council in 1995 — fielded questions during his election campaign in the Iowa this weekend.
Questioned on stage by the state attorney general for nearly an hour, Scott was asked at one point about his love life — as well as what he thought about the prospect that if elected he would be the first single president in 162 years. .
He responded by calling such concerns antiquated, before shedding light on a “special lady” in his life – who he quickly declared was not his mother.
A devout Christian, the 57-year-old South Carolinian gave a clue to his anonymous muse’s faith, as his single status continued to serve as a sticking point for many more traditional-minded Americans.

Single presidential candidate Tim Scott gave a hint about his still-obscure love life during an on-stage interview with Iowa’s attorney general on Saturday – with the devout evangelical revealing he has a ‘lovely’ girlfriend Christian” who is waiting for him at home.

The 57-year-old told Attorney General Brenna Bird, “I’m dating a lovely Christian girl,” before asking members of the Des Moines crowd to “pray for him.”
The devoted evangelist told Iowa AG Brenna Bird on Saturday, “I’m dating a lovely Christian girl.”
The onstage statement, made at the Faith and Freedom Coalition in Des Moines, drew an almost immediate and audible reaction from the auditorium, where many expected more about the candidates’ policies than his personal life.
That said, much of America — as well as publications like the Washington Post — found themselves more enamored with the latter, especially after an interview in May in which Scott sensationally revealed that although he’s single, he doesn’t He wasn’t single.
Hosted on May 31 by Axios, the spot also saw the aspiring president — who served his home state’s Senate for a decade — address what has become one of the most shocking contrasts between him and favorites like Donald Trump and Ron DeSantis.
“I probably have more time, more energy and more latitude to do the job,” he told the DC crowd after being asked about the apparent anomaly – which was prefaced by the interviewer and was last seen by a sitting president by James Buchanan in 1961.
This claim, while true, carried more weight for students of American history – due to the fact that Buchanan, a Civil War-era Democrat, was considered by many to be the first gay president in history the United States.
Like Scott, Buchanan was also a devout Christian who attended church all his life and never married. He remained single throughout his four years in power, by which time he was in his sixties. When he died at age 77 in 1868, he was still single.
Faced with the comparison, Scott appeared to defend his single status, before quickly asserting that he was in fact dating someone.

Much of America found themselves falling more in love with the latter, especially after a May interview in which Scott sensationally revealed he was no longer single.

The last person to remain single during his presidency was James Buchanan, who left office in 1961 while single. Buchanan, a Civil War-era Democrat, has long been considered the first gay US president – and the comparison saw Scott almost instantly mention that he has a girlfriend
“The fact that half of the American adult population is single for the first time suggests that being married or not will be the determining factor in whether you are a good president,” Scott said at the time.
“It feels like we’re living in 1963…not 2023.”
The outspoken candidate also seemed to try to view being single as a potential advantage — especially compared to his previously divorced counterparts like former President Trump, who is currently embroiled in several unrelated legal cases. next elections in 2024.
“I probably have more time, more energy and more latitude to get the job done,” Scott told the crowd, before dropping the bomb on his private life, seemingly in passing.
“My girlfriend wants to see me when I get home,” he joked, receiving boos and applause from those in attendance.
That remark — in addition to sparking a quick frenzy on social media — almost instantly sparked online chatter from internet sleuths aware of the Christ-loving conservative’s immaculate dating record.
It also led to a September 12 Washington Post article that gave a lengthy look at the senator’s love life — or lack thereof.
A decade-old DailyMail.com report also shed light on some of the Republican’s checkered past, who began as an aspiring politician in the 1990s, when he campaigned across South Carolina as a proud 30-year-old virgin.

Scott is seen as a child with an unidentified aunt in this family photo from the 1960s. He credits his upbringing by his single mother in North Charleston as a determining factor in his decision not to marry.
This commitment to abstinence would allow him to be successfully elected later that year and help cultivate the image that many associate with him today as a senator.
After 16 years in public life and winning a seat in the U.S. House of Representatives, Scott dropped the bombshell that he was no longer a virgin – but had remained single, at least publicly, so far.
In the recent Post article, Scott attempted to explain why he was still keeping the woman’s alleged identity a secret, citing privacy concerns.
“I can’t imagine dragging her on the campaign trail unless I intend to marry her,” he said. “I hope that happens, to be honest with you.”
The Post further reported that during its in-depth study of the senator’s alleged love affair, staff refused to let him meet the woman.
However, in an interview, Scott’s campaign manager Jennifer DeCasper provided what could perhaps be seen as a clue to his identity, saying the two had recently spent time at a zoo.

As of Sunday, Scott had yet to comment further on the alleged mystery woman. His identity currently remains secret
This contrasts with comments made to the newspaper by a Scott staffer just months ago, in which DeCasper claimed the politician’s love life was “non-existent.”
An anonymous insider who spoke to the Post on condition of anonymity added that the secrecy also stems from Scott’s desire to stay true to the image that got him elected and ultimately respected in his home state.
“He relied so much on his personal history, his character and his faith,” the anonymous agent said this week.
“He presents himself as an American pastor, so to speak, as he courts evangelicals in Iowa, and I think a lot of people may wonder about his lack of family.”
