USWNT player Korbin Albert came under fire Thursday after sharing an anti-LGBTQ+ social media post on her TikTok.
The 20-year-old had previously shared a Christian sermon on the account, in which he talked about how being gay and “feeling transgender” is wrong. The posts resurfaced this week, sparking a backlash led by American soccer legend Megan Rapinoe.
The retired player shared a post on her Instagram Story directed at “people who want to hide behind ‘my beliefs'” telling them to “wake up TF!”
Rapinoe did not specifically name Albert on her Instagram Story, but it is widely believed that she was talking about those posts, prompting the rising star to apologize.

Who is Korbin Albert?
Korbin Albert is a professional soccer player who rose through the ranks of the United States from the youth phase.
Born in Grayslake, Illinois, a suburb of Chicago, Albert played for Eclipse Select SC, a boys’ and girls’ soccer club in the area, which saw her gain prominence among the USYNT group of players.
The youngest of six children, Albert comes from an athletic family with her mother, Janet, an All-American in track and field at Iowa.
Two of his four brothers play college football, DJ at the University of Cincinnati and Keaton at Indiana Wesleyan, while his sister Teagan plays soccer and is a diver at Olivet Nazarene.

According to his social media activity, Albert is a Christian. Despite attending a Catholic institution, it is unclear if Alberta herself is Catholic, as Notre Dame accepts all religions.
The now-deleted posts Albert shared were repeat posts from a Christian worship space discussing how being gay and “feeling transgender” is wrong.
He’s posted similar content to his profile before, including a now-deleted post on his TikTok account from the Fourth of July weekend that shows his family and says “their pronouns are US.”
The midfielder was born and raised in Grayslake, Illinois, a northern suburb of Chicago.

Albert joined the University of Notre Dame one year in early 2021 and received several individual honors during his two seasons at the Division I school.
She was named to the national Freshman Best XI and was also named Third Team All-ACC during her freshman season in 2021.
In her second and final season in 2022, she was named a first-team All-American and All-ACC selection.
Albert was also named ACC Midfielder of the Year and was the first Irish player to be shortlisted as a finalist for the Hermann Trophy, the award given to the country’s best collegiate player, since 2010.

Albert earned his first senior call-up in December last year and earned his first start in February against the Dominican Republic in the Gold Cup.
