Gretchen Whitmer lashed out at Donald Trump on Sunday for inciting domestic terrorism after encouraging a Michigan crowd to “ lock her up ” for her nationwide handling of the coronavirus pandemic.
Whitmer’s chants and criticism also came a week after a botched kidnapping plot against the Michigan governor was revealed.
‘It is incredibly disturbing that 10 days after a plot to kidnap me, the President of the United States has brought me to justice and executed me … is again … inciting this kind of domestic terrorism’, Whitmer told NBC’s ‘Meet the Press’ Sunday morning.
Whitmer demanded that “people of goodwill on both sides of the aisle” shout the president’s words and “bring the fire down.”
“It’s dangerous not just for me and my family, but for officials everywhere,” Whitmer said.
The Democratic Governor has come under fire from President Trump and his supporters in her state for her response to the COVID-19 pandemic – including enforcing lockdowns in Michigan to prevent the spread of the virus.
Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer on Sunday accused President Donald Trump of ‘boosting domestic terrorism’ just days after a plot to kidnap and execute her

Trump criticized Whitmer’s response to Michigan’s COVID-19 pandemic at his state rally Saturday night
Trump’s comments prompted the crowd to sing “ Shut Her Up. ”
At the swing-state rally on Saturday, Trump hammered on Whitmer for keeping the state locked in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic.
“You have to get your governor to open up to you, okay?” he told the crowd of mostly maskless supporters. “And you get schools open.”
The crowd cheered in response and only got louder when Trump said, “Hopefully you’ll send her packing soon.”
The event erupted into repeated ‘lock her up’ chants, which Trump brushed off, adding, ‘lock them all up! ‘
Whitmer told NBC News Sunday morning, “I will not be distracted by attacks from the White House or any Supreme Court here in the state undermining my work.”
“If you’re tired of lockdowns or you’re tired of wearing masks or want you to be at church this morning,” Whitmer continued, “it’s time for a change in this country.”
‘[The] The reaction to the Trump virus is the worst in the world, I mean in the world, ‘she said.
Whitmer also criticized Michigan and Trump MAGA fans on Saturday for chorusing “ lock her up ” chants, saying rhetoric has endangered her family.
She criticized her on Twitter, while Trump spoke to a large audience at a campaign rally in Muskegon, Michigan.
It came just a week after the FBI intervened in a nefarious kidnapping plot.
“This is the very rhetoric that has endangered the lives of me, my family, and other government officials as we try to save the lives of our fellow Americans,” she wrote. ‘It has to stop’
Last week, the FBI thwarted a kidnapping plan orchestrated by a group of militiamen. The accused men are right-wing extremists who plotted to kidnap Whitmer at her Michigan vacation home.
They wanted to try her for “treason” in a hiding place in Wisconsin. They also discussed “ grabbing her ” and calling her a “ b *** h ” in recorded conversations an informant delivered to the FBI.

Most recently, authorities arrested Brian Higgins, 51, of Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin, and charged him with material support for a terrorist act.
The charge carries a 20-year prison sentence.
He is one of 14 men charged in two separate charges – one by the FBI and one by the Michigan Attorney General – for their plot to kidnap Whitmer and generally overthrow governments.
The men are described by prosecutors as part of the ‘boogaloo’ movement – an organization of predominantly right-wing agitators.

Six men have been charged with conspiring to kidnap Whitmer. They are Ty Garbin, Adam Fox, Kaleb Franks, Daniel Harris, Brandon Caserta and Barry Croft.
Higgins was sued by the Michigan AG office along with Paul Bellar, 21, Shawn Fix, 38, Eric Molitor, 36, Michael Null, 38, William Null, 38, Pete Musico, 42, and Joseph Morrison, 42.
All fourteen men are now in custody awaiting trial. They haven’t submitted any pleas yet.
The alleged plot began with a meeting where the men discussed in early June to form their own ‘self-sufficient’ society.
“At one point, several members were talking about state governments they believed were violating the United States Constitution, including the Michigan government and Governor Gretchen Whitmer,” the FBI affidavit claimed.
The men then attempted to recruit members of the Michigan militia to assist, the affidavit alleges.
Trump has been a strong supporter of the anti-lockdown movement that got underway this year when states implemented home stays and social distance guidelines.
He has criticized Whitmer, a Democrat whose coronavirus restrictions began in March and continued into the fall.
“ The Michigan governor should give a little bit and put out the fire, ” Trump tweeted in May. ‘These are very good people, but they are angry. They want their lives back, safe! See them, talk to them, make a deal. ‘
Just a day earlier, anti-blockage protesters arrived at the Michigan State Capitol building with firearms and donned militia equipment.
Two of the men at the protest, William and Michael Null, were among the militiamen who were arrested for the failed kidnapping plan.
On Oct. 8, Trump shared another series of disparaging tweets to Whitmer about her lockdown policy.

Trump urged Whitmer to reverse her pandemic precautions and fully reopen Michigan
Michigan Governor Whitmer has done a terrible job. She closed her state off to everyone except her husband’s boating activities. The federal government has been of great help to the Great People of Michigan, ”he wrote.
My Department of Justice and federal law enforcement announced today that they have foiled a dangerous plot against the Michigan governor. Instead of thanking you, she calls me a white supremacist – while Biden and the Democrats refuse to condemn Antifa, anarchists, looters and mafias burning down Democrat-run cities.
‘I do NOT tolerate extreme violence. Defend ALL Americans, even those who oppose and attack me, that’s what I’ll always do as your president! Governor Whitmer – Open Your State, Open Your Schools, and Open Your Churches!
The next day, Whitmer said Good morning AmericaGeorge Stephanopoulos said the language used by Trump and his supporters was “ dangerous. ”
“Even last night’s president in his tweet doesn’t stop the storm from attacking me,” she said.
“I think it creates a very dangerous situation – not just for me, but also for people in leadership positions trying to save lives all over this country.”
