White Fox Boutique moguls buy $25million Vaucluse mansion: Georgia and Daniel Contos purchase house down the road from $34.5million property in Sydney’s ritzy eastern suburbs

Date:

Less than two years after buying their first mansion in Sydney’s posh eastern suburbs, fashion couple Georgia, 32, and Daniel Contos, 33, have bought another.

While the couple’s first White Fox Boutique home in the Vaucluse waterfront suburb cost them $34.5 million at the end of 2021, the new one, just down the road, costs just $25 million .

Their first purchase in the Vaucluse needs a bit of work though, given that it was built in 1976, so the Contos would have needed a place to stay in the meantime.

A request to tear down part of the first house and rebuild it at a cost of $3.7million was approved by the local council last week, Domain reported.

Their new digs are much older – they were built in the 1920s – but are said to be in very good condition with recent renovation and are suitable to enter and settle in immediately.

Being able to spend $60 million on the property in two years and having enough money to spend several million more on renovations shows how far the glamorous couple have come.

The couple started selling clothes on eBay in 2013 when they were in their early twenties, offering the latest fashion trends at affordable prices.

The high school sweethearts and co-founders of White Fox Boutique tied the knot in a spectacular way to 110 of their closest friends, celebrating 14 years together.

Georgia and Daniel Contos shared their first dance together as husband and wife on February 5, 2022 at the Woollahra Estate in Sydney, surrounded by hundreds of floral arrangements and stunning Victorian Gothic architecture.

Although she had no experience in the industry, the venture turned out to be a huge success and was the start of the brand that was worn by the Kardashian sisters, Sofia Richie, Hailey Baldwin and Emily Ratajkowski. .

“I was working full time so I had no idea it was going to be as big as it is now or be recognized by a lot of people I meet,” Georgia Contos previously told Daily Mail Australia.

She said the main driver of the label’s success was social media.

“I didn’t have any money when I started the business, so if we weren’t using Instagram, I don’t think it would have taken off so much,” she said.

The Covid-19 lockdowns saw their business soar as shoppers flocked to the retailer to stock up on activewear and loungewear for all those overtime hours at home.

They recorded a massive 154% increase in sportswear sales after NSW plunged into its second shutdown in June 2021.

The brand has also gone international, with a showroom in Los Angeles and influencers wearing their bikinis, dresses and hoodies.

Not that it was all easy, with a backlash in early 2022, with some accusing the label of ripping off styles from smaller brands.

Influencers and small businesses have taken to social media to share side-by-side comparisons of designs produced by the Australian fashion label, questioning its originality.

A series of social media posts have accused White Fox Boutique of selling designs similar to clothing from Australian and international brands Mr Winston, Meow and Dion Lee.

Ilah Watson was one of many small business owners to point the finger at the label for creating designs resembling products sold by other brands.

In an Instagram post, Ms Watson shared an image of a blue mini skirt sold by her online retailer Vesper.co alongside an almost identical design from White Fox.

‘Am I crazy, or…?’ she wrote.

In a video uploaded to TikTok, a number of White Fox models appeared alongside similar styles from other fashion brands, sold at considerably cheaper prices.

The clip featured a white bustier sold by Australian designer Dion Lee which retailed for around $790 in the photo alongside a White Fox which sold online for $69.95.

But those bumps in the road didn’t stop the couple from enjoying a themed wedding around the same time, in February 2022.

“We spent a lot of time on the finer details and made sure the day was absolutely perfect,” the new Ms Contos said at the time.

“The theme and inspiration for our wedding was an enchanted garden and I think we nailed it.”

“We made sure to have spectacular photo moments that not only ourselves, but also our guests could enjoy.

“Food was also a big factor for us and A’mare Sydney took care of all of that.

“After the ceremony, guests enjoyed a champagne, caviar and oyster cocktail which was a huge success.”

Two months ago, the brand ran into another slight hiccup when Ms Contos took video of her visit to the brand’s warehouse showing stacks and stacks of orders waiting to be dispatched to shoppers.

Viewers were shocked by the sheer volume of plastic packaging and clothing that many claimed would be ‘worn once before going to landfill’.

But while the momentary criticism has hit their finances, that hasn’t stopped the Contos from spending $25 million on a roof over their heads as they spend $3.7 million to upgrade their primary residence in $34.5 million.
