Whispering Angel fans go wild for £10 version of ASDA's best-selling rosé, branding it 'wildly iconic'

It is the favourite rosé of the Beckhams and Adele and sells a million cases a year.

But it looks like ASDA is competing against Whispering Angel (made in the Languedoc region of France) this summer.

The supermarket giant has been praised online for selling a ‘dupe’ version of the popular wine for £10, which it has dubbed ‘Screaming Devil’.

Earlier this month, X user Bertie Darrell shared a photo of the bottle, writing: “ASDA’s version of Whispering Angel is, I’m afraid, violently iconic.”

The post has racked up more than 10,000 likes in the past week and has sent social media users into a frenzy.

Asda has been praised online for selling a ‘dupe’ version of the popular wine for £10, which it has dubbed ‘Screaming Devil’.

One replied: “I actually prefer the look and design of the bottle too.”

Another added: “I want to buy it! Is it bad that I want to buy it just because of the name?”

“Great,” said a third. “I don’t usually go to Asda but I’ll be near one next week so I’ll be buying a couple of these… commendable marketing strategy!”

Meanwhile, others who tried the wine praised it as “delicious.”

However, the names of the two wines seem to be where the similarities end, as they have very different flavor profiles.

According to Asda’s website, Screaming Devil wine has notes of “perfumed white peach, bright mango and passionfruit aromas, along with some rhubarb notes on the nose.”

The product description reads: ‘A really lively and vibrant palate, a fresh and saline structure, a beautiful spicy length, with intense aromas.’

In contrast, Whispering Angel is known for its floral and fruity notes of ‘lavender, raspberry and cherry’.
