Which London club is most likely to sign Richarlison from Everton this summer?

Richarlison is at the center of a three-pronged battle of London clubs for his signature in this summer’s transfer window.

The Brazilian had sparked the interest of Arsenal and Tottenham before Chelsea entered the race for Everton’s most valuable asset. It’s believed the Toffees won’t be willing to negotiate for a price of less than £50 million – roughly what they paid to lure Richarlison from Watford to Goodison Park in 2018.

Thomas Tuchel’s side will be in the market for attackers as they will lose Romelu Lukaku, who is on the cusp of returning to Inter Milan on loan. The Blues also need an extra boost in forward areas as they try to close the gap with runaway pairs Manchester City and Liverpool.

The Brazilian has been a mainstay of Everton since he switched from Watford in 2018

It’s easy to see why Richarlison has captured the attention of three of the Premier League’s top six. The 25-year-old, who has scored 53 goals and scored another 14 during his time at Everton, will be happy to make the move as he approaches the peak years of his career.

Everton are ready to listen to offers for Richarlison – a fan favorite for reasons on and off the pitch – and it looks like his near future is away from Goodison Park after four years on Merseyside.

Here, sports post looks where he would fit and where his most likely destination is.

Chelsea

Sportsmail reported on Monday that Chelsea are ready to vie with their fellow London clubs for the former Watford attacker as part of the new ownership regime’s plans to renew their attack.

Although the Blues finished third in the Premier League last season, it’s hard to argue that any of their forwards have had particularly outstanding seasons. Timo Werner has struggled continuously, Kai Havertz has yet to fulfill his potential and few tears will be shed at Stamford Bridge with Lukaku’s imminent departure.

Richarlison can inject the energy, verve and speed that Chelsea so badly lacked. He would also bring an edge that Blues fans so admire in their players, a trait former striker and his compatriot Diego Costa had in abundance.

The Brazilian may not be an automatic starter in Tuchel’s XI, but would give the German another option, especially in games against sides willing to sit deep and try to hit Chelsea on the counter.

Chelsea may also be the most likely of the three London clubs believed to be interested in Richarlison raising the minimum asking price.

But it is believed that Tuchel has placed Raheem Sterling at the top of his transfer wish list and it seems unlikely that Chelsea will sign both Richarlison and the Manchester City winger, who are both playing from the left in a front three.

But Richarlison may be the easier deal of the two as City will make a hard deal if they want to sell to a rival.

Tottenham

Antonio Conte’s Spurs are among the most active Premier League clubs in the transfer market to date.

Three players – Ivan Perisic, Fraser Forster and Yves Bissouma – have already come through the door of the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium since the window opened.

The Spurs top clearly want to support Conte and the club will be fully aware that they need to add depth to a promising squad if they are to move from top four hopefuls to regularly challenging for domestic and European honours.

Champions League football makes Spurs more attractive to players like Richarlison. But for the player, he could be looking at a potential move to Tottenham and understandably worried about his playing time.

Son Heung-min, Harry Kane and Dejan Kulusevski established themselves as a fearsome front three in the back half of last season and will be hard to dislodge once they are all fully fit.

It’s hard to see Richarlison, a regular at Everton during his time there, happy with a potential supporting role. It also seems unlikely that Spurs – known for their frugality in the market, until at least this summer – will be willing to pay more than £50million for an understudy to their dynamite trio of Son, Kane and Kulusevski.

Arsenal

Like Chelsea, Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal will look to bolster their attacking options after narrowly missing Champions League qualifiers ahead of their fierce north London rivals.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette have both left the club in the past six months and the left is one area Arsenal fans will want to target.

Gabriel Martinelli is clearly a huge talent but not quite there yet, while Emile Smith-Rowe is another promising alternative in that wide slot. Of course there’s Bukayo Saka too, but he’s mostly operated from the right – and with great success.

Some would argue that Richarlison is an upgrade from both Martinelli and Smith-Rowe, but Arsenal have other priorities, most notably Gabriel Jesus, the Everton player’s Brazilian team-mate.

It is doubtful that the Gunners would deposit a significant amount of money on both Jesus and Richarlison and that severely limits their chances of pursuing a deal for the Everton man.

There are also other priorities for Arteta, who has long been linked with a transfer for Leicester midfielder Youri Tielemans and is interested in Leeds star Raphinha.

If all three of those players landed, the chances of signing Richarlison would be reduced to nil. At best.
