The Resident Evil 4 remake has no shortage of treasures to hunt in each of its three main regions. Some are locked behind puzzles, but others require small keys to retrieve them. If you’ve come across a locked drawer, it means there’s a treasure inside waiting to be picked up.
Regardless of whether you have the dealer’s treasure maps in the Resident Evil 4 remake or just want to make money, below are all the Small Key locations scattered throughout the game. If you’re curious about what’s in each locked drawer, you can find each reward and its value in the last section.
How to open locked drawers in Resident Evil 4 remake
For each closed drawer you will find in the Resident Evil 4 remake, there is a small key hidden for it somewhere in the region. You can open them in any order and there is no specific key for a specific drawer.
The only thing to be aware of is that once you’ve passed a region’s point of no return, you can’t go back and grab any missed treasures – unless you’ve manually saved beforehand. If you start and save a new game after completing the game once, you will need to collect all the treasures again so that you can start your quest again.
All Resident Evil 4 remake Small Key locations
There is total eight small keys collect in the Resident Evil 4 remake, spanning the first two regions. There are no more locked drawers when you enter the island, so make sure you grab everything you need before you leave the village and castle.
As a quick note, while we include the number of the chapter where you first encounter the item, you can grab them at any time, as long as you don’t cross the point of no return. In the village, that point happens when you go to the extraction point with Ashley. In the castle it is when you enter the bell tower.
Below you will find all Small Key locations in the Resident Evil 4 redo:
Valley Small Key
Place: In the hut under the hexagonal emblem. Using the east entrance as a reference, you’ll find the key in an open chest on a cupboard in that small room on the right, next to a barricaded window.
Small key to the village chief’s mansion
Place: As you follow the main path, you will find yourself in the Village Chief’s Manor. Go to the southwest corner of the ground floor (use the map as a reference) to get the key on top of a stack of papers, between the couch and the window.
Fish farm small key
Place: In a drawer in the west corner of the area, just south of the boat fuel marker, is a small cabin with the key inside.
Settlement on the lake / forest altar small key
Place: Use your boat to go back to the settlement, then use your Insignia Key to open the path to the north, which leads to the Forest Altar. Once up there, take the key on the west side, on top of a carriage.
Church small key
Place: Once you’re in the church, head over to the pulpit and look to your right to grab another key in that southern corner of the area (if you’re looking at the map for reference!).
Bookbinding small key
Place: After going through the Bindery puzzle, you’ll end up in an L-shaped hallway. Once Leon is scared of that creature quickly crawling over the wall, go to the left (or the south corner of that hallway if you’re looking at the map) and get the key on top of the chest next to the window.
Great Hall Small Key
Place: While you are looking for the three statue heads and you go to the room to the north (while looking at the map), take the key from a cupboard in the top left corner of that hall with the armors (where Ashley tells Leon that he would like to jump into one of them). It’s on the way to the meeting with the knights, so if you miss it, just go back into the room afterwards.
Ballroom small key
Place: Once you return to the castle area after your adventures with Luis in the mines, you will come across the trader, as well as a train track that will take you to the clock tower. Before you do, head to the right side of the train to find a briefcase with the key inside.
Locked drawer rewards for using small keys
As mentioned above, there are eight treasures that you can grab from locked drawers with little keys. Most of them are only for sale, but there is also a gem and treasure with slots to increase the price with gems.
In terms of locations, they are all super easy to find. When in doubt, trading Spinels for the treasure map of the area at the merchant shot will determine where they are. Doing so won’t reveal the Small Key locations, but hey, that’s why we’re here to help.
