A fascinating reworked world map reveals the most popular cruise destination in each country, and the Caribbean is the world’s favorite place for a boat trip.

The map is color-coded to indicate each country’s favorite trip, and the country names have been complemented by the names of the place its residents most want to travel to. The results were generated by analyzing the cruise routes that people searched most on Google between March 2023 and April 2024, using a master list of 100 popular cruise destinations.

The Caribbean is the most popular cruise destination thanks to 2.8 million total searches. It tops wish lists in 44 different countries around the world, including the United Kingdom, Mexico, Jamaica and Sweden.

The Mediterranean is the second most searched destination, with 2.1 million searches in the last 12 months. Spain, France and Croatia are among the countries that most seek this destination.

An Alaska cruise comes in third, with 1.8 million searches, and is the top cruise choice for residents of the United States and Canada.

A Nile River cruise comes in fourth place (1 million searches), with Germany, Italy and the Czech Republic among the countries wanting to discover Egypt’s ancient temples and tombs using a boat as their headquarters.

The fifth most searched cruise destination, according to the study carried out by cruise travel insurance specialists Everything clear, is Antarctica. The icy spot has 969,670 searches in total, ranking first in Australia, Brazil and New Zealand.

In sixth place is a Seine River cruise (695,040 searches), a first for people in Ireland, Vietnam and India.

The Caribbean dominates South America, while an Alaska cruise takes first place in Canada and the United States.

Sailing the Norwegian fjords is in seventh place with 674,230 searches, and a Danube River cruise, leading in Romania and Slovakia, is in eighth place with 548,840 searches.

The rest of the top ten comprises a Mississippi River cruise (462,580 searches) and a Hawaii cruise (454,670 searches).

However, not all countries can decide on their dream destination. This is the case of the Japanese. For them, the “around the world” cruises (11th place, 424,920 searches) are the ones that attract their attention the most.

Letitia Smith, Head of Communications at AllClear, shares: ‘It’s fascinating to see the number of travelers eager to embark on unforgettable journeys across the world’s oceans, seas and rivers.

“From the beautiful islands of Greece to the cold Antarctica, it has been fantastic to see such an increase in interest in cruise holidays around the world in recent years.

‘Cruises offer a unique alternative to regular land travel, with a completely different set of things that travelers need to consider and take into account. For example, always remember your cruise-specific travel insurance instead of general travel insurance when purchasing a policy before your boating adventure.

“Unlike standard travel insurance, cruise travel insurance includes essential coverage specific to your cruise vacation, including onboard medical emergencies, cruise interruptions and cancellations, cabin confinement, and even missed departure from port.”
