Where in the world men are most likely to SIT DOWN to wee – and it’s Germany that tops the ranking

Revealed: Where in the world men are most likely to sit down to pee – and Germany tops the list (and they even have a name for those with the habit…’ sitzpinklers’)

The countries where men are most likely to sit down to pee have been revealed – and it’s Germany that tops the list.

Forty percent of Germans say they sit down to urinate all the time, and a further 22% do so “most of the time.” Only 10% say they never do.

This is according to a study by market research firm YouGovwho made the wry comment after publishing the findings that an earlier lack of data in his public records on men’s peeing habits had been a “glaring omission”.

To correct this, he conducted a study in 13 countries on men’s pee preferences.

YouGov pointed out that it is not uncommon in Germany for signs in public toilets to encourage men to sit down to urinate. But ironically, the nation has a slightly pejorative name for men who do – ‘sitzpinkler’. It translates into English as someone who likes to sit down to pee, but is also, YouGov said, used “to imply that a man is wimpy or effeminate.”

The study also revealed how peeing habits change with age.

It found older German men – 55 and over – are particularly likely to always sit down to pee, at 49%, compared with 28% of 18-34 year olds.

In Britain, by contrast, the age difference is reversed, YouGov said, with older British men “significantly more likely than their younger counterparts to say they never sit down to pee, 40% versus 23%”. The same is true in Australia, according to the research, 38% versus 24% – and in the United States, 35% versus 21%.

YouGov added that younger Danish men are also significantly more likely to say they sit to urinate ‘most of the time’ compared to their elders – 37% versus 21%.
