A young man could spend less than three years behind bars after his then-girlfriend discovered videos of him raping her unconscious mother on his phone.
The woman had checked the South Australian man’s phone after suspecting him of cheating on her, but instead found the vile images which left her “scarred for life”.
The District Court heard that the man, 25, was living with his then girlfriend and her mother at the time of the assault and had a strained relationship with his own family, the Advertiser reported.
“Indeed, your victim and her family took you in and treated you like one of their own,” Judge Anthony Allen told the man.
“His betrayal of her love and affection is nothing short of appalling.”
The former football club employee was sentenced to five years in prison with a three-year non-parole period. His sentence was retroactive to September 18.
The young woman who discovered the images was shocked to find multiple videos of the man indecently assaulting or raping her mother, who was drinking heavily at the time, while she was unconscious on a massage table.
In a heartbreaking impact statement, she described the feeling of wanting to crawl out of her skin at the thought of him touching her after raping her mother.

“I am scarred for life after watching multiple videos of him raping my mother,” the young woman told the court last month.
“No one should have to say that to their mother and I will never forget her screaming and crying.”
The victim told the court, through the prosecutor, that receiving the phone call from her daughter about the assault broke her heart.
“He chose to rape a person who regularly showed him more generosity and love than his own family,” she said.
‘I felt very violated, betrayed and ashamed by someone I let into my family and home when I was a son.
“Our family will never be the same.”
The man pleaded guilty to rape and participating in humiliating or degrading filming, related to crimes committed between 2022 and 2023.
Before charges were brought against him, he had worked at a South Australian National Football League club.
His conviction means he will no longer be allowed to work in the industry.
The 25-year-old was sentenced to five years in prison and a three-year probation period. His sentence was retroactive to September 18.
He had previously told his ex-girlfriend that he had carried out the cruel attack to get revenge after she revealed private information to him.
Judge Allen described the man’s attack as “appalling”, made worse by the fact that the mother had shown him kindness by taking him into her home.
“The fact that you filmed the offense against her is particularly degrading and humiliating,” he said.
