WhatsApp has been testing Channels features on its platform for a while. The Channels feature was initially made available to select beta testers from around the world, after which Meta’s instant messaging app expanded the beta to more testers. Various other developments related to WhatsApp channels have already been reported. Now WABetaInfo has reported that the instant messaging app plans to make it easier for users to find a channel on the platform.
According to the report, the WhatsApp beta for Android 2.23.12.4 update is now rolling out through Google Play Store and includes the feature that makes it easier to find new channels.
Based on the screenshot posted, the app is getting a new section that allows users to search for specific channels. In the search field in the new section, users can type text to search for a channel by name. Apart from that, the section will also have three filters to choose from, including recently added, popularity, and alphabetical.
How it will help users
Now Channels on WhatsApp is intended as a new broadcasting tool for users that allows them to post new content, updates, etc. on the platform. Channels here will work as a kind of community where users can post things. However, in order to see those posts, users need to find and join the channel, which is possible if users can better search the channels without having to click links or ask others to help them join the channel.
The new search function simply does that for users. They can search for and filter a particular channel using one of the available options.
Now we still don’t know when the feature will be rolled out to the stable version of WhatsApp. But we expect it to happen in the upcoming updates.
