What’s happening with Selena Gomez, Kylie Jenner and Hailey Bieber on the socials?

There is reportedly a feud going on. They are reportedly Selena Gomez, Hailey Bieber and Kylie Jenner. It reportedly happened on social media.

To wait. The latter is a fact.

(Note: This article may be based on a true story. How true? No guarantees.)

Anyway, there’s been a lot of noise surrounding a vanishingly small amount of drama that (allegedly) led a lot of people to suddenly hit the “unfollow” button on Instagram, maybe. Follow along as we recreate that feud/drama/mean-girls fan fantasy.

Things we know for sure (ish)

On February 21, Gomez posted on TikTok and in her Instagram Stories (allegedly) a series of videos. In the first, she pretended to say, “My name… my name is Bella Hadid.” But words posted on that video read according to Women’s Health UK, “I wish I was as beautiful as Bella Hadid.” That was followed by another video of Gomez saying in her own voice, “This is me instead. I laminated my eyebrows too much. Than there was one more: “My name is Selena Gomez… look, it doesn’t even sound sexy.”

The same day, about three hours later, Jenner posted a photo of herself in her Instagram Stories with the words “this was an accident ?????” positioned over her eyebrows. This was interpreted as Jenner shadowing Gomez. Because both posts contain eyebrows?

On the same day, Bieber also posted a TikTok with himself, Kendall Jenner and singer Justine Skye lip sync saying “I’m not saying she deserved it, but I’m saying God’s timing is always right.” She later deleted the post, but others have since reposted it. Did they speak directly to Gomez? Some very online people seem to think so.

On Feb. 22, in response to a video in which a TikTok user speculated that Kylie Jenner had thrown shade at Gomez, the youngest Kardashian-Jenner reportedly wrote, “this is reaching out. no shade towards selena ever and i didn’t see her brow posts! you make something out of nothing. this is lame.”

Gomez (allegedly) responded, “Agreed @kyliejenner. It’s all unnecessary. I’m a fan of Kylie!” We say “allegedly” because the last time we looked there were about 25,000 comments on the post. People had to quote yet another outlet to capture that last comment.

Also falling into the “facts” category: Selena Gomez dated Justin Bieber off and on from 2011 to 2018. Hailey Bieber dated Justin Bieber from 2015 to 2016 and got engaged shortly after he and Gomez parted ways for good. The couple got married in a courthouse in September 2018 and did the wedding thing again a year later, because why not.

Fans of the Bieber-Gomez and Bieber-Baldwin (Hailey’s maiden name; she is the daughter of actor Stephen Baldwin) romances have kept alive the appearance of an alleged feud, and it now appears to have flared up again.

What was the fallout?

Gomez announced on February 23 that she was taking time off from social media. That was the same day she dethroned Kylie Jenner as the most followed woman on Instagram. Only football players Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi, plus Instagram itself, have more followers.

“I love who I am, and yes, I’m taking a break from social media because this is kind of crazy,” Gomez told her fans. “And I’m 30, I’m too old for this. But I love you so much and I will see you sooner rather than later.

on February 28 DailyMail. com reported that Jenner had lost “an estimated one million followers” on Instagram in the wake of the (alleged) shadow, going from 380 million to 379 million followers. On Monday, however, she had 380 million again. According to the social media statistics site Social knifeshe has lost about 129,000 followers in the last 30 days, a lot more has happened in that time than EyebrowGate.

To put that in numbers that people can understand, that’s like selling a Kylie Lip Kit for $32 for a while, only to wake up one day and find out it’s worth eight cents less. And then see a few days later that it’s worth $31.99 again. Traumatic.

Meanwhile, Gomez added more acolytes than usual during the same period, bringing her current 395 million followers. Social Blade says it added 19.3 million in the last 30 days, during which time – again – far more than EyebrowGate has done.

And Hailey Bieber is still only the 118th most followed person on Instagram. She only has 49.4 million people hanging on to her every post. That’s nearly a million less in the last 30 days, per Social Blade, during which time… you know the drill. Please let’s not get into correlation vs causation, mm-kay?

Why do we care now that it’s March?

Because on Sunday, in comments to a TikTok she made when she returned to social media, Gomez wrote, “Please be kinder and consider the mental health of others. My heart has been heavy and I only want the good for everyone. All my Love.”

Yup. She is already back on social media.

And something else came up during the research for this story: Hailey Bieber smear castor oil on her eyebrows “every night” when she tried to regrow them after they became too skinny from too much teenage picking. Sounds like a bargain for brow repair. But we digress.

So what’s the gist of this whole mess?

Again, because these words are perhaps the wisest words Kylie Jenner has ever shared online: “You guys make something out of nothing. this is lame.”

And maybe we should all follow Selena Gomez.
