His son is 5,400 miles away with a new family and a new life.
But if anything could have further sharpened Prince Charles’s secession, it would have been heard that Harry has a new father figure.
That’s what 36-year-old singer and actress Katharine McPhee, a longtime acquaintance of the Duchess of Sussex, has said who has revived their relationship since Meghan and Harry moved to America.
But McPhee’s friendship with her fellow thespian pales alongside that between her husband – pop magnate David Foster, 70 – and the Prince.
“My husband has a very, very nice relationship with Harry,” McPhee gushed at celebrity gossip TV show Access Hollywood.
“They’re like, they’re so cute. They are like father and son.
His son is 5,400 miles away with a new family and a new life. But if anything had further sharpened Prince Charles’s secession, it would have been heard that Harry has a new father figure
“We just keep in touch with them. But usually Meghan and I knew each other from childhood, but really Harry and my husband are friends so it’s really fun. ‘
Aside from being just six months older than her husband’s new ‘son’, McPhee reflects her tactless comment about surrogate fathers Prince Harry’s own claim in 2017 that the Meghan royal family delivered ‘the family she never had’.
According to Meghan’s estranged half-sister Samantha, it was that comment that sparked the feud between the Duchess and her family.
However, it must be said that David Foster has nothing special as a father – with five marriages under his belt, he has five biological children and six stepchildren.
This well-connected and charismatic Tinseltown power player helped the Sussexes find a place to live in British Columbia during their brief Canadian stay.
He admitted that he had linked them to the hitherto unnamed mansion owner on Vancouver Island, where she and infant son Archie found “reprieve,” said Mr. Foster, adding that he felt “honored” to have Meghan. help ‘because I am a Canadian and we are a Commonwealth country’.

The honor continues: When asked where the Sussexes could live while house-hunting in Los Angeles, McPhee said this was Foster’s division.
“David is the resource. He knows all places. He likes to help people, ”she said. “We just want them to end up where they feel safest and happiest.”
Despite public statements and an upcoming tell-all book “written with the collaboration of those closest to the couple,” the Sussexes have repeatedly insisted on living a private life.
Still, Foster has a unique Hollywood sense of privacy – parading his existence for public consumption at every turn.
He has twice allowed cameras into his house to film a reality TV series.
In 2005, he and third wife, actress Linda Thompson (longtime girlfriend of Elvis Presley), worked together on a cheap show called The Princes Of Malibu.
Ms. McPhee said that she and Meghan know each other from childhood. Pictured: The pair together in a photo that Mrs. McPhee posted to Instagram
This followed Foster’s attempts to put his spoiled stupid sons Brandon and Brody (from Linda’s marriage to Olympic athlete Bruce Jenner, before moving to Caitlyn) on the right path.
In 2012, Foster did it again when he and his fourth wife, Dutch-born model Yolanda Hadid, starred in the equally tacky series Real Housewives Of Beverly Hills.
This followed the pair, along with Yolanda’s supermodel daughters, Gigi and Bella, at their $ 19 million home in Malibu. Foster has also appeared as a judge or ‘mentor’ in a series of TV music competitions, including American Idol and Asia’s Got Talent.
He even welcomes the public to his current home in Malibu during the coronavirus shutdown.
He and Katharine, number two in the 2006 season of American Idol and star of the recent West End musical Waitress, perform daily concerts on Instagram, taking requests for songs.
In what they call the ‘Kat and Dave Show’, she sings (and sometimes tap-dances) as she accompanies her on a grand piano prominently displaying his 16 Grammy awards.
“We decided because we were all house bound that we would have a bit of fun,” said Foster, who happens to be promoting a new album. They certainly successfully entered the Sussex soap.
In January 2019, perfectly timed just a few days before opening in Waitress in London, McPhee revealed her connection to Meghan when she posted a photo of her and Meghan from their childhood years on social media, saying, ‘Both did musicals together a child. One is now the Duchess and the other is playing on the west side [sic]. Actually the same life if you ask me ‘.
However, McPhee has now admitted that she was “never really very good friends” with Meghan.
When she was a waitress in London, she and Foster attended a charity event that also hosted the Sussexes.
A well connected and charismatic Tinseltown power player, Mr Foster helped the Sussexes find a place to live (shown) in British Columbia during their brief Canadian stay
“Me and David put ourselves in a position where we could at least say hello and they were very friendly,” she said.
Great things came out of that rather weak connection.
Some might say it’s a mutually beneficial relationship (as they are in Hollywood) in which the Fosters can enjoy the reflected glory of the ex-royal Sussexes, as the latter make friends who know how to grease the wheels in a city that is all about who you know.
But Foster remains an unlikely father figure to Harry.
Born and raised on Vancouver Island in British Columbia, where his father worked in a shipyard, Foster continued his passion for music from an early age.
He became an influential keyboardist and composer, collaborating with former Beatle George Harrison, Earth, Wind And Fire and Chicago, and also produced music for films.
He also composed the theme song for the 1988 Winter Olympics and produced for stars such as Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston and Madonna.
And he’s the uncrowned king of Christmas albums, a much derided but lucrative genre that has produced four of the best-selling fifteen ever.
His personal life has been just as busy. He had his first child when he was 20 and placed her for adoption, 10 years later he reconnected with her.
He had a second daughter with his first wife, singer BJ Cook, and three more daughters with second wife, former model Rebecca Dyer.
His four-year marriage to Yolanda ended in divorce in May 2017. A year later, he became engaged to McPhee, despite the 34-year age difference.
He had produced her first single and even played the piano during her previous marriage to actor Nick Cokas.
They married in an Armenian church in South Kensington in June last year while she was still in the waitress. The duke and duchess were not among the guests.
Is Foster really Harry’s father figure or is that just Hollywood shine?
Regardless, the Sussexes may find that LA paparazzi aren’t the only ones to fear when it comes to keeping their new ‘private’ lives a secret.
Meet Sussexes’ New Neighbors: Harry and Meghan expressed a desire to live in the real world, but their new home is in one of the chicest gated communities in Los Angeles
By Tom Leonard in New York and Barbara McMahon in Los Angeles
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have made a commendable desire to work for the good of humanity, get off the royal pedestal and live in the real world.
What they really crave, friends say, is simple life. So why, you might ask, do they live in a grandiose mega hilltop mansion in one of Los Angeles’ chicest gated communities?
There is nothing down-to-earth about Beverly Ridge Estates; and ordinary people, except for the ghostly legions of domestic workers, gardeners and guards, are clearly lean on the ground.

If you ever want to understand how Hollywood stars eventually fall back on the A-list – imperious, narcissistic and separated from reality in their overly indulgent private worlds – Beverly Ridge would be the perfect place to start.
It’s where the obscenely wealthy and spoiled home resides – and the largest home is the current residence of Harry and Meghan.
Their $ 18 million, 25,000-square-foot home – where they allegedly live rent-free – has eight immense bedrooms, 12 large bathrooms, and sits on 22 acres of land. It is owned by Tyler Perry, an actor and entertainment magnate.
It features wood-paneled walls, a Roman-style sunken bath and a chic nursery for their son, Archie.
The Sussexes have been locked up there since moving from Canada to California in late March.
Perry, 50, worth an estimated $ 600 million, was reportedly introduced to them by their mutual friend, chat show host Oprah Winfrey, and flew them from British Columbia to his massive $ 150 million private jet.
Perry, a close friend of singer Janet Jackson and actor Will Smith, was never seen publicly with the Sussexes, but expressed sympathy for Meghan’s predicament when she complained in an ITV interview that no one had asked her how she was.
He built the obnoxious home in 2004, presumably a ‘Tuscan-style’ villa, cementing his reputation as an investor in brutal properties, which are huge even by the standards of status-obsessed American millionaires.

These charmless new neighborhoods may be a million miles from Windsor’s Frogmore Cottage, but they have one thing the ex-royal couple is obsessed with: privacy, recently improved even more after ordering the installation of black screens along part of the boundary of the compound that was overlooked by a walking path.
Whether that protects them from LA’s 200-strong paparazzi corps remains to be seen.
The property is also blessed with views of downtown Los Angeles and the Pacific Ocean in the distance.
For Meghan, an actress who never came close to the A-list while playing a paralegal on TV series Suits, she looked down on Beverly Hills – home to stars in homes significantly smaller than she now occupies – may not be an unpleasant feeling.
But while Beverly Ridge may be a small community, it is hardly tight-knit. “You don’t often see your neighbors. People often stay in their own homes, ”said Rochelle Maize, director of Luxury Estates for local real estate agent Nourmand and Associates.
Security is, of course, a priority. Next to the two imposing iron gates at the main entrance of the estate is a stone guardhouse.
A sign says, “Stop. Please contact the security guard before proceeding. Most homes, including Perry’s, have a further manned gatehouse.
For the privacy buffs, Beverly Ridge has the added benefit of being close to a small airport, Van Nuys, avoiding the media scrum at Los Angeles International.

Resident residents don’t even have to worry about shopping – deliveries are brought in a golf cart.
An agency that supplies servants in the area says some homes have as many as 30 staff, even up to a full-time laundress.
On paper, the estate doesn’t exactly shine with potential soul mates for the Sussexes.
Neighbors include nondescript business magnates from China and Indonesia, Alexis Maas – the 68-year-old widow of chat show host Johnny Carson – and Robert Rivani, a property developer who spent a fortune on a Harry Potter and Maleficent-themed wedding two years ago.
Unfortunately, the more colorful Carlton Gebbia – a British actress, self-proclaimed ‘Celtic pagan witch’ and star of TV series Real Housewives Of Beverly Hills – left last December.
However, four miles away is the better-known Beverly Hills which is packed with potential buddies, including Nicole Kidman, Jennifer Lawrence, Jennifer Aniston and Adele (the latter of whom has reportedly provided the Sussexes with advice on good private schools).
Real estate agent Rochelle Maize says there’s a lot of buzz in Beverly Hills about the newly arrived couple.
“It’s the newest thing to talk about – people saw the pictures where they were delivering food to the needy and they loved that,” she says.
“They like the cachet of those who live here, but high-profile people don’t like the paparazzi, so it would be wise to let them live behind gates.”
If Harry and Meghan are really looking for an unobtrusive and uncomplicated life, this extravagant home and neighborhood seems like a bizarre choice.
How ironic it would be if life next to Hollywood’s royal family turned out to be even more bearable for them than real life.
