A synthetic drug cocktail known as pink cocaine is becoming a major concern and is linked to a number of deaths.
Ironically, the drug, which gets its name from its seductive pink hue, does not usually contain cocaine, but rather a potent mixture of several drugs such as the tranquilizer ketamine, the stimulant MDMA and caffeine, although several recipes exist.
Doctors say the effect on users is similar to that of ecstasy and those who use it are at risk of effects such as extreme agitation, hallucinations and even psychosis.
Also known as ‘tuci’ or ‘tusi’ or ‘Pink Panther’, the drug is native to Colombia but has been found in the United States, Spain and the United Kingdom.
It has now emerged that the drug sold on the street for around £77 per gram could be implicated in the death of One Direction singer Liam Payne.
