Shanna ‘Liz’ Golyar, from Omaha, Nebraska, met a man named Dave Kroupa in 2012 through a dating app.

Although they spoke to each other online, Kroupa claims he informed the mother of two that he was only interested in a casual relationship, which Golyar initially seemed to accept without issue.

Things got worse after Kroupa met Cari Farver at his auto repair shop in Macedonia, Iowa, and asked him if she would have a relationship with him, to which he agreed.

Golyar then encountered Farver in the hallway of Kroupa’s apartment building when the former arrived unannounced to collect her belongings.

Why did Shanna ‘Liz’ Golyar kill Cari Farver?

Shanna ‘Liz’ Golyar allegedly killed Cari Farver due to what was perceived as jealousy that the latter was dating Kroupa after she rejected Shanna’s advances.

Ms. Farver was last seen on November 13, 2012 by Kroupa when she left her apartment and went to work.

A few hours later, Kroupa received a text from Cari asking him to move in together, even though the two wanted to remain casual.

Having rejected Cari’s request, he received another message that said: ‘Good. I hate you. I’m dating someone else. I do not want to see you anymore. Leave.’

No one saw Cari again, but Kroupa continued to receive text messages from her years later, ranging from harassment to threats.

In 2015, no one had seen Cari for two and a half years and, intrigued by the case, he was taken on by Pottawattamie County Sheriff’s Office investigator Ryan Avis and Sergeant Jim Doty.

The investigation found that Golyar had not only murdered Farver but had also kept her phone to impersonate her online.

In doing so, he made a mistake that was key in helping police locate Golyar, as he took a photo of what appeared to be a bound and decomposing body on his tablet.

Another photo, which helped clear up more doubts, showed a foot with a tattoo of a Chinese symbol that matched the one Farver had on his body.

It was later determined that Golar stabbed Farver to death 24 hours before his disappearance.

What prison is Shanna ‘Liz’ Golyar in?

On December 22, 2016, Golyar was charged with the first-degree murder of Cari Farver and convicted of the crime on August 15, 2017.

She is currently serving a life sentence at the Nebraska Correctional Facility for Women.

Digital forensics administrator Anthony Kava estimated that Golyar must have spent between 40 and 50 hours a week impersonating Farver.
