What happened to Humphrey B. Bear? Iconic children’s character vanished off TV screens but is teasing a comeback

Here’s Humphrey, one of Australia’s most iconic children’s shows.

The show, starring main character Humphrey B. Bear, played by an actor dressed as a bear, first appeared in 1965 and last aired in 2008.

More than 3,000 episodes were produced and the beloved series, set in a magical forest, won numerous Logie Awards.

It was canceled in 2000 after more than 30 years on air, to huge protests from fans, including then Prime Minister John Howard.

This led to a new series being commissioned, but it only lasted until 2003 before being canceled again.

Here’s Humphrey returned between 2007 and 2009 before finally disappearing for good despite plans to revive the series in 2019.

Or so it seems, as a website for the character, who is now appearing in live shows, appears to tease some upcoming changes.

‘Humphrey’s New Website LAUNCHING SOON!’ says the website.

“At Magic Forest we are very excited to launch the new Humphrey website soon,” he continues.

Several actors have donned the bear costume over the years, most recently Tony Balzan and Bec Schembri.

There was also a wide range of presenters, including Bachelor star Ali Oetjen.

She revealed her past as a children’s TV show host on Here’s Humphrey in a throwback photo.

In the cute image, a youthful-looking Ali approaches the iconic character Humphrey B. Bear, brandishing a wide smile as he puts his arm around the bear’s shoulders.

There was also a wide range of presenters, including Bachelor star Ali Oetje (pictured).
