The coffee market in the UK is booming, with more coffee shops opening than ever and a cup of coffee replacing tea as the most popular drink among Brits.

But as the £5 latte takes over the high street, it seems some people are heading to get their caffeine fix at the pub.

Wetherspoon has seen a rise in sales of Lavazza coffee in its pubs, which are particularly popular with retirees.

“Sales of Lavazza coffee are increasing,” said founder Tim Martin.

“Free top-ups are believed to be responsible for spontaneous displays of breakdancing among retired customers,” he jokes.

JD Wetherspoon pubs across the country sell unlimited Lavazza coffees for between £1 and £2, depending on location, while customers can also get Flat Whites, Cappuccinos and Lattes for the same price.

The trend of going to your local for a coffee has also intensified on TikTok, and the offer is especially popular among seniors and students.

One trick advises people that on a winter’s day they can drink unlimited coffee for just £1.20, while staying warm and not having to turn on the heating at home.

Students are also heading to pubs to study, with dozens sharing videos of their bottomless drinks online.
