Terrified shoppers were forced to run for their lives after a “small” explosion in the toilets of one of Sydney’s busiest shopping centres.
Police were called to Westfield Miranda, in the south of the city, at around 2pm on Wednesday following reports that a man was allegedly seen throwing bottles into a toilet in a bathroom on level one.
The man allegedly had bottles of chemicals and began throwing them into the toilet until one exploded.
Police reportedly confiscated several bottles for forensic testing.
A 21-year-old man was arrested nearby and taken to Sutherland Police Station where he is currently assisting with enquiries. No charges have yet been brought against him.

A NSW Police spokesman confirmed there was “no ongoing threat and the mall has not been evacuated”.
Police investigations are ongoing.
