The Oscar-winning actress will appear alongside Ke Huy Quan in the upcoming Universal Pictures film, which is set to be released in February 2025.
Plot details are being kept under wraps for the film, which is being directed by first-time director Jonathan Eusebio, an acclaimed veteran stunt coordinator.
Kelly McCormick and David Leitch of 87 North serve as producers, while the film was written by Josh Stoddard, Luke Passmore and Matthew Murray.
According to Deadline, the film’s bosses were searching for the perfect female lead after casting Quan and met with several actors before settling on the ‘West Side Story’ star.
Ariana starred in Disney’s animated film Wish last year and revealed she “cried like a baby” when she was cast in the movie.
She told MovieWeb.com: ‘They came to me shortly after West Side Story came out, and I hadn’t really earned anything.
‘I was really excited when West Side Story came out and it looked like I was going to get a chance to do more work.
‘Then they called and Chris Buck (the director) said, “We want to do this movie with you.”

“I was like, ‘Wow, what is it? ‘ Because they hadn’t actually told me, but then they explained to me what the story was going to be and I cried like a baby because I was a Disney kid.
DeBose voiced the heroine Asha in the film and explained that her performance was inspired by other Disney princesses.
The 33-year-old star said: ‘I can definitely tell you that a lot of our past Disney princesses and heroines inspired me while I was on the stand.
‘I could hear echoes of Mulan and Cinderella.
‘I was like, “Alice would have said that,” or “Raya, there you are, girl!”
‘I was inspired by a lot of canon characters.’
