West Ham and Brazilian star Lucas Paqueta remain in doubt for the upcoming World Cup in Qatar after club boss David Moyes revealed the attacking midfielder suffered a ‘serious’ injury.
Paqueta was absent from West Ham’s trip to Anfield on Wednesday night and could be sidelined for a long period after injuring his shoulder in a recent 1-1 draw with Southampton.
The Brazilian joined the Hammers for £51 million in the summer transfer window and was one of Moyes’ shining sparks with the West Ham manager who praised the ‘dynamic’ Paqueta he brought to his team.

Hammers boss David Moyes admitted Paqueta’s injury was ‘serious’ with no set return date
“He has an injury, which is quite serious at the moment. I’m not sure how long it will keep him out,” Moyes said.
Paqueta has played all but one of Brazil’s last 20 matches
“He’s been a huge player for us lately, he got in shape and gave us a different kind of dynamic in the team. We are very disappointed to lose him.
Brazilian head coach Tite is now anxiously waiting to see if the 25-year-old will be fit in time for their opening game against Serbia on November 24.
Paqueta has failed to start just one of Brazil’s last 20 games and has been a key figure in the national lineup since his debut in 2018.
Brazil, the top-ranked team in the world heading into the winter tournament, are hoping to avert further fears after Tottenham striker Richarlison feared he would miss the World Cup following a recent injury scare against former Everton.
West Ham chief Moyes decided to give 23-year-old Flynn Downes his Premier League debut in place of the injured Brazilian, while Moyes was keen to see the youngster perform at Anfield.

“He’s definitely ready. Now it’s up to him to show it on one of the biggest stages.
“We like him a lot and also for the future. Hopefully he can help us tonight,” Moyes said.
