West Coast say they will prioritize the health and well-being of Tyler Brockman after the forward was involved in a car accident which is being investigated by police.
Brockman was involved in a road traffic accident in Geraldton, 420 kilometers north of Perth, early on Saturday morning.
The 21-year-old attended the family funeral on Friday afternoon.
West Coast says no other vehicles were involved and no one was injured.
“This matter is being investigated by WA Police and Tyler is cooperating fully,” West Coast said in a statement.
“Tyler’s personal circumstances are complex and the club will prioritize his health and wellbeing before returning to play football.
“The club has informed the AFL about this incident and we await the outcome of the police investigation before making further comments.”
The West Coast Eagles star had attended a family funeral before the car accident.
Western Australian Police are investigating the crash which did not involve any other vehicles and no injuries were reported.
The West Coast Eagles will provide the young star with the appropriate care to assist with his health and wellbeing.
Brockman played 26 games for Hawthorn before transferring to West Coast at the end of last year.
The forward did not score a goal in his first six games for the Eagles before being dropped in last week’s six-point loss to Essendon.
West Coast have a number of injury concerns ahead of Sunday’s clash with Collingwood at Marvel Stadium.
In-form striker Jake Waterman will miss the match with a concussion, while midfielder Elliot Yeo is also expected to spend time on the sidelines after injuring his groin.
Trainer Adam Simpson said Monday night that they are awaiting tests on Yeo, but that it is not a recurrence of the star’s osteitis pubis.
“It’s more of a muscle pull, so we’re hoping it’s just a one or two week injury,” Simpson told Fox Footy.
Sophomore forward Noah Long is also awaiting scan results after awkwardly twisting his knee in a tackle over the weekend.
There is a possibility that Long may have damaged his ACL.
“We hope for the best, but we fear the worst,” Simpson said.
