West Brom manager Carlos Corberán was sent off in strange circumstances during the club’s clash against Southampton on Friday.
After just five minutes of Hawthorns action, a misplaced pass from Saints forward Sekou Mara appeared to have gone out of play as it traveled down the byline.
With the ball rolling next to him, Corberán left his technical zone and touched it with his foot.
The interference sparked immediate protests from the Southampton bench as the ball was not deemed to have gone out of play and referee Sam Allison quickly showed the Spaniard a red card.
Allison’s decision to show the former Huddersfield boss a pure red would prove controversial on social media.

One user wrote: ‘Honestly, a reservation would have been enough. Not that he was getting an advantage. All the players thought he was out too and had stopped.’
Another fan agreed: “I clearly thought the ball had gone out of play.” The referees are going crazy again.
Others, however, insisted that Corberán’s interference left the official no choice but to expel him.
‘He illegally entered the field of play and interfered with the game. “The red card is the only option.”
Another added: ‘You can say it’s tough all you want, it’s not the referees job to teach you all the laws of the game you play/watch!
The referee’s decision sparked controversy on social media with fans divided over whether Coreban should have been shown a red.
‘Either you want them to do the job well or they ignore the laws of the game. You can’t have it both ways.
Corberán’s night would go from bad to worse shortly after his sending off, when Ryan Fraser gave the visitors the lead in the 14th minute.
West Brom are currently fifth in the Championship, 15 points behind Southampton and 26 behind runaway leaders Leicester.
