Football legend Wendell Sailor is retiring from his role as a commentator on Triple M with immediate effect.
The Brisbane Broncos hero had initially planned to retire at the end of the season but has brought his exit forward this season.
Sailor, 50, has been a contestant on Triple M since 2015 and is also part of its afternoon show Rush Hour.
“My main focus now is to spend more time with my children and pursue common interests,” Sailor said in a statement Friday.
‘I am deeply grateful for the understanding and support of Southern Cross Austereo in my decision. My priority is to balance my career with my family life, particularly as I celebrate my 50th birthday this week.
‘Triple M has been an integral part of my career. I have forged lifelong friendships and enjoyed every moment commentating on NRL matches and presenting The Rush Hour.
‘I am grateful for the encouragement I have received and look forward to my next chapter, to focusing on family as well as interests such as golf and corporate opportunities.’
The announcer wished Sailor the best for the future.
