Welcome of Spring and New Year in Nepal’s Magnificent Festival Celebration by Participants

Festival goers cover themselves in red powder to welcome spring and the new year in Nepal’s wonderful celebration

Bisket Jatra in Nepal is underway with crowds covered in red powder as they celebrate in the streets.

The annual festival takes place over nine days in the Bhaktapur district of central Nepal.

The event started on Monday and will end on April 18th.

The festival, which takes place in mid-April, welcomes the Nepali New Year and marks the arrival of spring.

Thousands of people from different parts of the country gather in the city of Bhaktapur to take part in the colorful festivities.

The chariot of Lord Bhairavnath was pulled to Thimi in Bhaktapur district on the fifth day of Biska Jatra on Friday.

Local youths would drive the cart early in the morning, lighting traditional lamps and playing musical instruments.

During the festival, residents of the Thane (upper) and Kuani (lower) districts of Bhaktapur Durbar Square, a palace complex, pull a chariot in the style of a three-storey pagoda, in which statues of Bhairvnath and Petal are installed.

Tug of war decides which half of the city the trolley will go to first.

The side that pulls the cart to its quarter is considered the winner.

On the fourth day of the festival, a tall pillar of Liu Sin Duo is erected to mark the end of the year.
