Weinstein’s lawyer visits him in the hospital when a rapist spokesperson says he’s “mentally down”

Harvey Weinstein’s lawyer Arthur Aidala visited him in the hospital on Friday, while a spokesperson for the convicted rapist said he was “mentally ill.”

Aidala was shown Friday morning in the lobby of Bellevue Hospital, Manhattan, where Weinstein has been in custody since Monday after receiving heart rhythm and chest pain on his way to Rikers Island.

The shamed media magnate fell ill only a few hours after being convicted by a New York jury for raping Jessica Mann in 2013 and sexually abusing Mimi Haleyi in 2006.

His defender Aidala was seen while he bought snacks at the hospital while visiting his client, the same day that doctors ordered a CAT scan for Weinstein, according to a source.

The sex offender enjoys his time at the hospital and reads books about Winston Churchill and speaks with his two young children and ex-wife Georgina Chapman, the source said.

His team gathered, while a spokesman for the convicted rapist warned that he was “mentally down” after his conviction.

Spokesperson Juda Engelmayer, who also visited the Weinstein hospital bed on Friday, said that the Hollywood producer had difficulty facing the jury’s decision.

“He does not understand how the jury did not understand that he was not guilty of these crimes,” said Engelmayer Page six.

“He’s not cheerful.”

Engelmayer tried to dispel the rumors that the diversion from Weinstein to the hospital – instead of the Rikers Island correction device – had given him a sweeter contract.

“He’s emotionally down, he’s mentally down. He’s in jail, “he said.

“Let’s dispel any idea that he’s in a soft place. His hospital room is a cinder block room with a hospital bed and a very wide open stainless steel toilet without a lid and glass windows all around. Police officers or hospital staff can see when they pass by. ”

But last night, his victims accused him of receiving special treatment after claims emerged that he was staying with his family in a large hospital – far from a cell in grim Rikers Island, often called the Torture Island nickname.

When he entered his fifth day in the hospital, it turned out that Weinstein’s defense lawyers had doubts about the attempt to release him on bail.

His legal team initially stated after his conviction that they were trying to get him on bail before his conviction on March 11.

But Aidala now says that this may not be the case because of individual indictments Weinstein faces in California.

Aidala told Bloomberg on Friday that he fears that the convicted rapist may be arrested by the Los Angeles authorities if they attempt to release him on bail while awaiting conviction in New York.

“This is all new unknown territory,” Aidala said.

“He has his case in LA, and we are trying to find out – if we get him free – they can move immediately to get him in custody as soon as a judge gives him bail.”

In the California case, Weinstein is accused of raping a woman in a hotel in Beverly Hills and groping another woman, model Lauren Young, while masturbating in a hotel bathroom during consecutive nights during the 2013 Oscars week.

He is accused of forced rape, forced oral copulation, sexual penetration through the use of force and sexual battery through restraint.

The charges, announced the night before his rape trial in New York on January 6, allowed Weinstein to be imprisoned for another 28 years if he was convicted of the most serious counts.

Weinstein, who plans to appeal, is facing up to 29 years in prison for the conviction in New York.

The LA case only starts after his conviction in New York on March 11 and no date has yet been set.

Weinstein is expected to be detained by the authorities of Los Angeles so that he can stand there. If he is convicted, he would serve every possible prison sentence in California after his New York sentence is over.

Weinstein’s lawyer, Donna Rotunno, told DailyMail.com that their team has not yet started thinking about the LA case.

One of the woman Weinstein is accused of sexual abuse in the LA case, Lauren Young, was one of the six accusers who testified during the trial in New York.

Young, a model and actress, was one of three women who were allowed to testify because prosecutors wanted to show Weinstein’s “previous bad deeds” to establish a pattern of abuse.

It is not yet clear how many previous bad witnesses will call LA prosecutors in that case.

California does not have the same limitations as New York in allowing such witnesses, and prosecutors allegedly hope to benefit by increasing the scope and number of witnesses they can use to show an alleged pattern.

Italian-Filipino model Ambra Gutierrez is expected to be one of those witnesses, sources in the New York Times said.

Gutierrez was one of the first women to publicly accuse Weinstein of sexual misconduct in 2015 when she went to the police and claimed that he caressed her breasts and put his hand on her skirt during a business meeting.

Investigators let her wear a thread when she went to meet the producer the next day and he heard in the tapes apologizing for his inappropriate touch when he begged her to go to his hotel room.

However, Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus Vance refused to make a declaration at that time.

Although LA prosecutors cannot lodge charges against Weinstein for Gutierrez’s allegations, her testimony is expected to play a role there.

While Weinstein’s defense lawyers are considering their next move, one of the judges who found him guilty said on Friday that the verdict had nothing to do with the # MeToo movement.

Juror 9, who gave his name only as Drew, said the group only focused on the evidence before making their decision.

The “absolute” verdict did not indicate an “attitude or voice regarding a larger movement,” he added.

Asked if broader implications had been considered, the judge told a US broadcaster: “No, zero, absolutely zero.”

It is not yet clear when Weinstein will be transported to Rikers Island.
