Wegmans has been dethroned as America’s favorite supermarket in an annual ranking compiled by thousands of shoppers.
The luxury store, which was founded in Rochester, New York, fell to second place on the list of America’s Best Retailers.
Topping the supermarket section this year was Great Wall Supermarket, an Asian-American supermarket chain that opened its first store in New York City in 2003.
To help Americans find the best places to shop, Newsweek partnered with data intelligence platform Statista to survey 7,000 customers about their opinions on retailers spanning 40 industry categories.
Participants were asked to rate the retailer based on pricing, product selection, atmosphere, customer service, accessibility, and likelihood of recommending the store.
This year, Great Wall Supermarket, an Asian-American supermarket chain that opened its first store in New York City in 2003, topped the grocery section.
Great Wall Supermarket scored an impressive 92.69 out of 100 in the ranking.

After taking the top spot in 2023, Wegmans took second place on the list this year.
Brothers John and Walter Wegman started as street vendors selling fresh produce in 1916, and the company now has more than 110 stores in eight states and employs more than 53,000 people.
Wegmans is known for its loyal following and high-quality (albeit expensive) products.
In October of last year, when Wegmans opened its first store in Manhattan, New York City, so-called “Wegmaniacs” lined up outside to be the first to try its fresh sushi, salads and sandwiches, as well as a host of other fresh produce and groceries.
Third on the 2024 list is Publix, which has more than 1,000 stores nationwide, followed by The Fresh Market, which has 161 locations in 22 states.
In fifth and sixth place on the ranking are organic produce retailers Sprouts and Natural Grocers, followed by Whole Foods in seventh place.
Since opening its first store in 1980 in Austin, Texas, Whole Foods now has more than 500 stores across the United States.
In eighth place on the list is Seafood City, a chain that specializes in Filipino food and products and has more than 30 branches.
Albertsons came in ninth and Kroger in tenth.
This comes amid fears of store closures if the proposed merger of the two mega chains goes through.
