  • A week old baby girl found dumped in an alley in a garbage can in Bangkok
  • Cloth wrapped around the baby and the cardboard box in which she was sitting had food on top
  • Girl made no sound and was upside down, but still alive

A baby girl was rescued after she was put in an old hair dryer box and dumped in a trash can.

The baby – presumably up to a week old – was buried Saturday night in the garbage pile in an alley in Bangkok, Thailand.

Resident Maneerang Phangmam, 32, collected old bottles to recycle when she peered into the purple box and noticed the baby.

She said that a white cloth was wrapped around her and that the cardboard box had dropped food and rotting vegetables on it.

The girl made no sound and was upside down, but wonder of wonder she was still alive.

Maneerang screamed for help and several neighbors seemed to call the emergency services.

She said: & I was done working and I was collecting bottles when I saw the hair dryer box. I wanted to see if there was anything valuable in it, and when I looked, I saw the little girl.

& # 39; I was scared and didn't know what to do. I just screamed for help and said: "Here is a baby, someone is calling the police and an ambulance." & # 39;

Paramedics from the local rescue foundation arrived and took the girl to an ambulance where she got oxygen while she was being cleaned.

Ambulance driver Piyapong Kanjan said the baby recovered after being dumped in the Khlong Sam Wa district of the Thai capital.

He said: & # 39; We think she is about a week old. She was taken to Nopparat Rajathanee Hospital where nurses take care of her. & # 39;

The police are now interviewing residents in the street where the abandoned baby was found.

Colonel Thanusorn Krittiyachot said: & The station was informed at 6:20 pm of the baby found in the alley. We came with rescue officers to inspect the scene.

& # 39; We will check with people who live and work in the alley to check if they have seen someone leave the baby. & # 39;
