Reddit users are angry and debating a wedding registry that includes a QR code for the pampered bride and groom’s Venmo.
Reddit user created a publication on the social media platform yesterday to discuss a controversial decision related to her fiancé’s friend’s upcoming wedding.
‘My fiance will be best man at his friend’s wedding at the beginning of May. For the sake of this post, let’s call the boyfriend Josh,” she wrote.
She added that Josh’s fiancé is Italian and that their wedding will take place in Italy.
The original poster (OP) did not clarify if she is in the wedding party, but she did help with the wedding preparations.
A Reddit user created a post on March 27 and described a “crazy wedding registry” from a couple he knows who are getting married in May.
The OP’s fiancé (original poster) will be the best man at their wedding in Italy and the woman agreed to help the groom create a wedding website.
Josh asked his best man’s fiancé to help him with the wedding website that was only for his US guests.
According to the OP, the Italian bride chose to create a different website for her side of the family since they speak a different language.
“I helped him with the calendar, FAQs, things to do, and getting to know the wedding party pages,” the Reddit user wrote.
“It’s pretty basic because they haven’t prepared anything for traveling guests, so the FAQs about where to stay and how to get around are basically ‘figure it out.’
The OP claimed that Josh and his fiancé wanted cash instead of gifts, so he suggested they create a honeymoon fund.
However, the amount of money Josh and his fiancé had requested was greater than the OP expected.
According to a Reddit user, the boyfriend told her that he and his Italian fiancé wanted money instead of gifts.
“A few weeks ago, Josh hand-delivered our invitation plus the invitation to my fiancé’s parents, who he’s also close with since he and my fiancé grew up together,” the Reddit user wrote.
“I realized that my fiancé’s parents had an extra little card that wasn’t in mine or my fiancé’s.”
The card contained the QR code and link to the future couple’s ‘crazy wedding registry’.
The OP was surprised when she reviewed the registry and admitted in her post that she found it “greedy and rude” to include the QR code and link on the wedding invitations.
The dismayed Reddit poster listed everything on the registry: Most of the money was going toward their lavish honeymoon.
According to the OP, the couple is asking for $14,000 to pay for their honeymoon.
That price does not include the amount requested for flights, which is $3,000.
The bride and groom can contribute to the total cost of their flights by receiving $2,000 in Delta Airlines gift cards at their request.
Their upcoming international marriage also requires them to pay considerable legal fees, which may be why they are requesting five payments of $500 on their record.
They managed to add a more affordable wedding gift to their list: $25 Zola gift cards.
The OP suggested that the couple create a honeymoon fund on their website. However, he wasn’t expecting to find a card with a QR code and a link to the groom’s Venmo on his invitation.
Most of the money the couple requested will go toward their honeymoon, and they also requested funds to pay for legal fees and Delta and Hotel.com gift cards.
According to the OP, Josh has had a history of ‘joking around’ for a while since his fiancé’s parents are rich.
She also claimed that Josh is “not a regular social media user” and that he posts photos every time he is invited to a vacation property.
“Sometimes I wonder if this is all my fiancé values… It’s very telling that he included this card for his fiancé’s parents, but not for us,” she wrote.
Reddit users have commented, and so far, the soon-to-be couple has received a lot of hate for their record.
Reddit users have shared various opinions about the wedding registry and many of them have dissed the future couple for it.
‘The months of household expenses are out of my pocket. “The two separate funds for the honeymoon are crazy,” one Reddit user wrote.
“And putting Venmo in there is just in bad taste.”
One Reddit user who claimed to be from Italy wrote that leaving a cash gift is “pretty normal,” but that it’s done in person and not on a website.
“Right now, in my culture, the norm is to cover the plate and add an extra $100. So if my husband and I are attending a close family member’s wedding, we usually leave between $400 and $500,” the user wrote.
‘That said, it’s incredibly distasteful TO ASK for money like this. At least where we’re from.’
