Australians have been warned to brace for another week of freezing temperatures as a cold front moves across the country, which will also bring rain.

The Bureau of Meteorology has warned that wet weather will affect southern Queensland and northern New South Wales on Monday afternoon.

A cold front will move through western parts of New South Wales on Tuesday, while a morning frost will persist across large parts of the ACT for most of the week.

Scattered showers are expected in parts of the interior, while Western Australia will be hit by rain.

Senior meteorologist Miriam Bradbury told Daily Mail Australia that Perth and parts of south-west Western Australia will experience unsettled weather.

“We expect a couple of cold fronts to pass through in quick succession between Tuesday and Thursday,” Bradbury said.

“We could see some heavy falls and damaging wind gusts.”

Elsewhere, the Northern Territory will experience mostly sunny conditions, while South Australia will be dry before showers return later in the week.

Ms Bradbury said August was likely to see above-average temperatures.

“That’s not to say we won’t have more cold fronts that will bring temperatures back above average,” Bradbury said.

“There’s probably a greater chance of the temperature being milder than colder.”
