  • President Joe Biden was in California on Friday to drum up party support
  • Before he left, he gave an optimistic view of the results of the midterm elections

President Joe Biden on Friday offered an upbeat assessment of his party’s chances in next week’s midterm elections, arguing that Democrats will hold the Senate and may even hold the House of Representatives — despite a series of polls suggesting that Republicans will make big gains.

‘We will win this time this time, I think. I feel really good about our chances,’ he said.

‘I think we will retain the Senate, pick up a seat. I think we have a chance to win the Chamber.’

Biden made his comments before flying out of California during a trip to drum up support for his party before voting ends on Tuesday.

Over the past month, Republicans have looked at a comfortable lead in House races – with most forecasters saying they will take control of the lower chamber – and take a smaller advantage in the Senate.

Pollsters say that an ongoing cost of living crisis has eaten into Democratic support around the nation.
