A couple who flew abroad for their first date just two weeks after meeting on a dating app revealed they are still going strong.

Sophie Holdgate, 27, and her boyfriend Conor Jay, 29, from Leeds, struck up a conversation on Hinge before booking flights to Copenhagen, Denmark, for their first official date.

Sophie, who works in marketing, wrote on her Hinge profile that she was looking for someone she could share a “£99 Wowcher mystery holiday” with for “our first date”.

This prompted Conor to respond, and sparks flew when he wooed Sophie with a comment about collecting fridge magnets.

The couple booked a £600 getaway, paying £300 each, with a two-week travel date. It would allow them to board an EasyJet flight from Manchester Airport to Denmark.

It turned out to be the right move for the lovebirds who have now been together for three months. Sophie said she and Conor felt “connected immediately.”

“Dating can be endless sometimes, so it was nice to meet someone who is also spontaneous and we connected right away,” she explained.

‘If you are not a shy person and feel confident traveling then it is really worth a try. “It’s definitely something you can’t think about too much, you just have to try.”

Hoping to make her Hinge plan a reality, Sophie opened up about the “mysterious” trip with Conor.

On March 22 they went out for drinks, but after fearing that the “mystery vacation” might encourage the other to withdraw, they spontaneously booked a flight to Copenhagen for the following weekend.

Both lovers of travel, their vacation lasted four days, from March 29 to April 1.

Although it wasn’t planned, the couple clearly went the extra mile to ensure their first official date was a success.

Sophie revealed: “One thing we had in common was planning an itinerary beforehand, so Conor sent me a Google document titled ‘Con and the Great Soph’s Adventure in Copenhagen’ with the message ‘your carriage awaits my lady’ and We listed everything that each one wanted to do.

Sophie and Conor have gone from strength to strength, with the couple meeting up every weekend since their first four-day date.

For Sophie, the experience was another one from the books. She said: ‘My friends and family weren’t surprised.

‘I love traveling and recently returned from two years in Australia, so I’m used to meeting new people all the time when I’m on holiday and staying in hostels.

‘Conor was the same, he has traveled more than 80 percent of Europe, so he is also used to traveling.

‘That’s why we chose Copenhagen, as it was one of the few places in Europe I hadn’t been to yet.

‘We found that booking a trip ourselves was more convenient as we wanted to go the following week.

“If we had used Wowcher, we would have had to wait and we were both worried that if we waited too long one of us would back out, so we booked the trip that night and went the following weekend.”
