AFL great Wayne Carey has revealed he gave up alcohol indefinitely after discovering he suffered memory problems following drinking sessions.
Carey, 52, hasn’t had a drink in just over a fortnight and is also now a regular at his gym.
The two-time premiership winner with North Melbourne told Tony Sheahan on Podcast The truth hurts that her lifestyle change came at the perfect time.
“I hold myself accountable because there is no end date,” Carey said.
“(Previously) I would go to meetings on a Friday, sit down and have lunch… I would have a few beers and attend a big lunch, whether it was work or other things that you have in mind. course. on.
“(Then I woke up Saturday morning and I was home by dinner time (Friday), I don’t remember lunch.” I don’t remember the conversations or details of that lunch.
AFL great Wayne Carey has revealed he gave up alcohol indefinitely because he found he “forgot things” after drinking sessions.
Carey (pictured with son Carter) hasn’t touched a drop in just over a fortnight – and there’s ‘no end date’ for how long he’ll stay off the grog
“(So I decided it was) time to go and not have a drop for a little while.”
Carey then confirmed that he’s already sleeping better, being a better father and “not taking as many anti-inflammatories,” which he uses after suffering serious injuries during his playing days.
In late 2022, Carey made headlines after a bag of white powder fell from her pocket at the Crown Casino in Perth.
The man affectionately known as ‘Duck’ by footy fans was adamant that the ziplock bag contained crushed anti-inflammatory medication which he used to control pain resulting from his injuries.
Western Australian Police investigated the matter and did not lay any charges against Carey.
Carey won AFL premierships with the Kangaroos in 1996 (pictured) and 1999.
In August last year, Carey and TikTok star Catie O’Neill ended their relationship.
‘The King’ then stunned many football fans last October after strangely confirming how many times he had slept with Kelli Stevens, the wife of his former teammate Anthony Stevens.
When the scandal broke in 2002, it shook up the sport and saw Carey – a great North Melbourne player – leave the club in disgrace and join the Adelaide Crows.
The affair also destroyed Carey and Stevens’ longtime friendship on and off the field.
