Waters defends viral quote after career night against Pelicans originally appeared on NBC Sports Bay Area

Lindy Aguas III delivered an iconic quote after his signature performance at the Warriors victory 124-106 over the New Orleans Pelicans on October 29.

“I don’t know. I have a strap on me. I just wake up and I can shoot, whether I’m playing or not,” the fourth-year NBA veteran said. after posting 21 pointseight rebounds, a career-high, and matching a career-high four assists.

That night, Waters stepped up in the superstar’s absence. Stephen Curryinter alia; a great performance that most did not expect, considering that Waters is usually a player at the end of the bench.

But the quote and stat line speak to Waters’ confidence. He’s the same guy with or without key opportunities. and waters Doubled down on that fact. and his quote when speaking with NBC Sports Bay Area’s Monte Poole on the latest episode of “Dubs Talk.”

“(The quote) just occurred to me,” Waters told Poole. “I spend a lot of time in the gym, during the summers and off-seasons; and it’s built on confidence… a lot of reps, a lot of work ethic. That question came up and (my answer) flew out. I still stand by it though.”

Waters has averaged 5.4 points, 2.0 rebounds and 0.8 assists in 13.3 minutes per game over his career, starting just nine games.

However, that Oct. 29 game at Chase Center was one of Waters’ debuts. And boy, did the reservation make it worth it. Golden State wasn’t projected to win that game, nor did it seem plausible after New Orleans built a formidable lead, but the Warriors did it.

Waters’ work ethic was one of the main reasons and remains key in helping the sideline coach. Steve Kerr for minutes.

“I’ve said it since the first day of (training) camp, this guy is a ballplayer,” Kerr said of Waters on Oct. 29. “The game flows when he’s out there. It’s not just because he’s a good shooter. “It’s the shots he doesn’t take because of his patience, it’s the cuts he makes toward the basket, it’s getting into the fight defensively.”
