Sam Burns picks up the pieces of his shattered driver after knocking it to the ground on the ninth hole in the third round of the FedEx St. Jude Championship in the FedEx Cup Playoffs

A missed tee shot by Sam Burns in the third round of the FedEx St. Jude Championship sparked a moment of anger for the golfer Saturday afternoon.

Burns, ranked 33rd in the world, watched as his tee shot on the ninth hole sailed 335 yards, but well to the left.

The golfer then let out a few more snaps as he threw his driver to the ground in anger.

This caused the clubhead to completely separate from the shaft, and the shaft flew off.

Burns then picked up the head of his driver, handed it to his caddie and continued on through the day for a club.

He then made a double bogey on the 446-yard par-four hole.

After going sideways into the fairway, Burns’ third shot dangerously went over a pond and landed just short of the green. Burns missed his chip on his fourth shot before his second chip (fifth shot) came within 13 inches of the hole.

To end his misery, he sank that putt for double bogey and concluded his first nine holes with a tournament score of ten under par.

He would finish the day at ten under par after scoring three birdies and three bogeys on the back nine.

Burns currently sits tied with Scottie Scheffler for fourth place in the tournament heading into Sunday’s final round.

Burns sits seven shots behind leader Hideki Matsuyama, who produced the best round of the day to finish six under par for the round and sits at 17 under par for the tournament.

The FedEx St. Jude Championship is the first tournament of the FedEx Cup playoffs and features 70 players.

This number will be reduced to 50 players for the next round of the BMW Championship, which will be held this year at Castle Pines Golf Club in Colorado.
