Watch: the moment the Chinese space flight launched to the “Heavenly Palace”

Date:

Zhou Liping, director of the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center, said the launch was a “complete success” and “the astronauts are in good condition.”

China sent three astronauts to its Tiangong station on Tuesday morning. This is the first time in the country’s history that Beijing has sent a civilian manned mission to the Tiangong station.

Until now, all of the Chinese astronauts who went into space had belonged to the People’s Liberation Army.

The Shenju-16 crew aboard a Long March 2F rocket lifted off from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center on the edge of northwest China’s Gobi Desert at 9:31 a.m. (01:31 GMT).

Zhou Liping, director of the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center, said the launch was a “complete success” and “the astronauts are in good condition.”

This Asian country has invested billions of dollars for decades in its military-run space program, which has allowed it to compensate for a large part of its lagging behind the Americans and Russians in this field.

China sent its first astronaut in 2003, and the Tiangong space station (Heavenly Palace) has been operating at full capacity since the end of 2022.

And in 2019, a Chinese spacecraft landed on the dark side of the moon. And in 2021, China sent a small robot to the surface of Mars.

Beijing plans to send the first crew to the moon by 2030, as it wants to establish a base there.
