Cristiano Ronaldo narrowly avoided being kicked by a crazed fan who jumped at him from the stands following Portugal’s 2-0 defeat to Georgia on Wednesday night.
In footage from another fan, Ronaldo appears bewildered as he walks off the pitch and pauses at the top of the stairs as the man flies past him towards the tunnel.
The fan jumped in with both feet first, although it seems likely he was attempting to get closer to the Portuguese superstar rather than inflict damage.
A steward at the game in an orange bib was escorting Ronaldo down and reacted quickly, moving in front of the player just as he saw the apparent threat.
Ronaldo then spreads his hands in front of him and gestures: “What was that?”

It comes days after the former Man United, Real Madrid and Juventus player was seen pushing a pitch invader.
Ronaldo received a lot of praise for taking a selfie with a young man who ran onto the field at the end of the match during Portugal’s 3-0 victory over Turkey.
But several fans entered the field in the final minutes of the match trying to get closer to Ronaldo.
Early in the match, Ronaldo did not have time to interact with the fans when he pushed a supporter who had entered the field.
After Ronaldo pushed him, the pitch invader was attacked by security, who dealt with him harshly.
UEFA is set to launch an investigation into the scenes in which six pitch invaders approached Ronaldo.
Ronaldo became frustrated during the match and received a yellow card for dissent.

Overzealous fans have always been a problem for the 39-year-old, who is one of the most famous people on the planet.
It has been a frustrating tournament so far for the prolific striker, who is yet to score. But Portugal still advanced to the round of 16 of the tournament despite Wednesday’s disappointing defeat.
They will next face Slovenia on Monday, July 1.
