Dragutin’s family inherited the carpentry profession and excelled in it. They make mobile summer houses, saunas and whatever customers order in the form of wooden barrels.
The family, which does not employ any workers in the village of Trnavak, except for its members, fulfills customers’ orders within ten days. They bring life back to the wooden barrels that have been eaten away by time and drink. They add their touch to them, putting years of experience to turn them into a house, a bathroom, or a room.
“The area where we live is famous for growing grapes, so we have a lot of those barrels that are in old cellars. We take them out and repair them. And all the barrels that are exported are about 6,000 liters in volume,” says Serdjan Çavutović, the son’s carpenter, who inherited the profession from his father.
The family wants to open a village of barrel houses next to the fish lake near them, in the middle of picturesque nature and gardens that include rabbits, pigs, horses, donkeys and many field animals.
As for the father, Dragutin Čatović, a father who spent his life in carpentry, he says: “I am very satisfied and my heart is reassured that my son and grandson are following in the same footsteps. Before the work was done by hand, there were no machines. Now we have all the machines and the work has become much easier.”
The daughter-in-law also has a role in this work. Snezhana Shkotovich explains the nature of her work and how she helps the family fulfill customers’ orders. She says: “I sew curtains and upholstery, and I also help my husband lay tiles, panels and various works. Teamwork is a recipe for success, together we can do it.” everything.”
The family exports what it makes to Croatia and Bosnia, in addition to covering the local market in which they occupy the largest place, if not the only one.
