Morocco unveiled a model for its first homemade hydrogen-powered car, at a ceremony attended by King Mohammed VI at the royal palace in the capital, Rabat, on Monday.
The MAP said that the prototype of the hydrogen car was manufactured by “NamX” and called the HUV (Hydrogen Utility Vehicle).
The ceremony also witnessed the presentation of a model of a car manufactured by the local “New Motors”, a company with Moroccan capital, according to the agency’s description.
King Mohammed VI honored Nassim Belkhayat, founder and managing director of “New Motors” and Fawzi Najah, founder and managing director of “Namex” by awarding them the Medal of Intellectual Competence.
The exterior design of the hydrogen-powered car model was produced by Namex, in partnership with the Italian Pininfarina office.
The agency said that “New Motors” seeks to reach an annual production capacity of 27,000 cars destined for both the local and foreign markets, “with a local integration rate of up to 65 percent.”
According to the Moroccan Agency, the total investment in this project is expected to reach 156 million dirhams.
