Describing the chase, he said: “A taxi had refused to take him, and footage showed Ahmed approaching the driver’s side of another taxi parked unattended.
“The owner had entered momentarily to collect a ticket and had left the keys in the ignition.
“Ahmed took the vehicle and then attended the victim’s address to dispose of identification documents before speeding off.
“Officers from the Surrey and Sussex Roads Police Unit were alerted to the vehicle on the M23 and attempted to detain Ahmed safely.
“But he was driving dangerously, swerving off the road and reaching dangerously high speeds as he drove onto the M25.
“NPAS helicopter tracked the vehicle from the M25 to the M40, then the M42 and the M6.
“Ahmed hit the A34 and was still driving at speeds of 70mph in a 30mph zone, going the wrong way around roundabouts, through red lights and on the wrong side of the road into oncoming traffic.” .
