A lightning strike caused a large gas explosion at a recycling plant in Oxfordshire on Monday night.
Videos and images were shared on social media of the incident at the Severn Trent Green power station in Cassington, just off the A40 north of Oxford.
The Met Office had issued a yellow weather warning for thunderstorms in the area.
In a statement, Severn Trent Green Power confirmed that a digester truck had been struck by lightning at around 7.20pm. No injuries have been reported.
“We can confirm that at around 7.20pm this afternoon, a digester tank at its Cassington AD facility near Yarnton, Oxfordshire, was struck by lightning, causing the biogas within that tank to ignite,” said Severn Trent Green Power.
“We are working with the emergency services to secure the scene and will provide further comment in due course.”
