Asked about Just Stop Oil’s threat to disrupt Pride, Mr Khan said: “I am someone who feels very passionately that we need to tackle the climate crisis. And I feel pretty passionate about encouraging people to join the movement to tackle the climate crisis.
LGBTQ+ members of Just Stop Oil also called on Pride organizers to ban floats from sponsors like United Airlines and condemn new oil, gas and coal projects.
They said in a statement: “These partnerships embarrass the LGBTQ+ community at a time when much of the cultural world rejects ties to these toxic industries,” adding that LGBT+ people “suffer first” in the “accelerated social collapse” caused by climate change.
