Watch: French police disperse a demonstration of climate activists in Paris

Date:

French police fired tear gas to disperse a demonstration Friday by climate activists against French oil giant Total Energy in Paris.

Dozens of demonstrators gathered in front of the company building, which is currently holding its annual conference, chanting slogans such as “All we want is the overthrow of Total.”

Major oil companies such as BP, Shell, ExxonMobil, Chevron and Total Energy achieved record profits exceeding $40 billion in the first quarter of 2023.

The French Oil and Gas Total Energy Group announced net profits of $20.5 billion in 2022, an increase of 28% from 2021, in the largest profit it has ever achieved and one of the best profits in the history of the CAC-40 stock index.
