A drug dealer tried to mislead police by throwing his illegal supply out of a window, unaware that officers were waiting below, footage shows.
Askor Ali was arrested in April 2023 on suspicion of drug trafficking after Northamptonshire Police broke down his door and raided his flat.
When officers burst into his property, he tried to hide the incriminating evidence by throwing the drugs, along with a phone used to contact customers, out his window.
However, the police waited downstairs to collect the evidence.
CCTV footage shows an officer making a quick inventory of the flat and noting “what looks like crack cocaine by the window”.
He then asks three officers downstairs if anything was thrown out the window, prompting one of them to hold up a package.
A ‘prolific dealer’
Police found crack cocaine and cannabis in the apartment and after examining Mr. Ali that he was a “prolific dealer”.
He was later charged with possession with intent to supply Class A drugs, production of Class A drugs, possession of Class B drugs, and possession of criminal property.
At Northampton Crown Court on 31 May 2023, he pleaded guilty to all four offences, and was sentenced to three years and four months in prison.
Lead researcher Pc Shaf Habeeb said: “I am very pleased with this result because it means another drug dealer is in prison and unable to wreak havoc on the communities of Northampton.
“Tackling drug harm is a priority for Northamptonshire Police and I hope this case demonstrates that this goal is being pursued, which remains relentless across the force.”
