Eyewitnesses recorded on the beach of Dauphin Island, south of the US state of Alabama, a rare picture of a crocodile enjoying the sun, letting the waves wash it quietly to the beach, unconcerned with the presence of people.
Alabama is known for its large number of alligators, and one of them was recently seen basking in the sun and lolling around beachgoers, unaware of their presence.
Matt Harvell was among those who saw the alligator swimming in the open ocean last week. He said he “didn’t make a sound or open his jaws at all, but was curiously watching and exploring.”
The city’s Department of Natural Resources says these crocodiles can sometimes be found swimming in the Gulf of Mexico, due to their ability to tolerate a high level of salinity.
It is worth noting that alligators are the only predators authorized to be hunted in the US state of Alabama.
