If you’ve been watching Wimbledon and want to take your tennis skills to the next level, you may be considering purchasing a home with a court.
And the price doesn’t have to be out of reach: the cheapest one costs less than £220,000, according to data from OnTheMarket seen exclusively by This is Money.
Brighton and Hove, Cornwall and Buckinghamshire are the cities with the highest number of properties with tennis courts for sale.
According to OnTheMarket, 7,276 homes with tennis courts have been listed so far this year, compared to 13,436 in all of 2023.

In 2022, an impressive 43,930 homes with tennis courts were listed for sale nationwide as sellers capitalized on buyers’ desire for more outdoor space, which accelerated during the pandemic years.
Homes with tennis courts are often luxurious and out of reach for many, but there are some more affordable properties with their own courts.
West Dunbartonshire, Glasgow and East Dunbartonshire are the cheapest locations to buy a house with a tennis court so far this year, OnTheMarket said.
In West Dunbartonshire, the average cost of a house with a tennis court for sale is just £216,599, while in Glasgow it is £291,741.
At the other end of the spectrum is Westminster, London. Finding a property large enough to house a tennis court in Westminster is no easy feat and, unsurprisingly, very expensive.
According to OnTheMarket, the average cost of a home with a tennis court in Westminster is £4,434,566, up from £3,719,209 a year ago.
St Albans is another expensive place to buy houses with tennis courts, with tennis-ready homes typically selling for £3,703,913. While St Albans is the second most expensive place to buy a house with a court this year, last year Elmbridge in Surrey came in second.
Norfolk is known for its wide open spaces and glorious countryside and coastline, so it’s no surprise that properties with tennis courts here command a premium price. It’s the third most expensive place to buy a house with a tennis court, data suggests.

To purchase a house with a tennis court in North Norfolk, a buyer will typically need to spend £3,521,153, OnTheMarket said.
An idyllic six-bedroom house with tennis court called Town Farm is currently on sale by Strutt & Parker for a guide price of £1,980,000. The property near Holt has over 3.7 acres of land, a fenced paddock and self-contained holiday cottages.
How much does a tennis court cost?
If the property you plan to buy does not have a tennis court and you want to build your own, Checkatrade says the typical cost will be around £45,000.
There are different surfaces available, each with its own price and advantages and disadvantages.
Savanna is one of the more expensive surface options. The synthetic turf is, according to Checkatrade, highly advanced, as well as soft and durable, providing “extra cushioning during play”.
The cost of building a Savanna-surfaced pitch will be around £51,000, he added.
It’s worth remembering that if you have a tennis court at home and use it frequently, at some point you’ll likely need to refurbish it, which could cost around £17,000.
This will depend on things like the size of the court, the material of the court surface, and even factors like where you live.
