Frustrated Walmart customers have taken to social media to share their displeasure as the retail superstore continues to disappoint.
Walmart has implemented frustrating new rules for its self-checkout experience, prompting a wave of shoppers to take to social media to voice their complaints.
Jessica Dooly revealed she “almost cried” due to her immense frustration during a recent checkout experience.
“I had a packed stroller and almost cried when they asked me to use the checkout line,” she shared on Facebook.
Customers like Dooly have come to rely on the availability of self-service checkout, often seeking a smoother shopping experience rather than having to make unwanted conversations at the cash register.
The new rules come after Walmart expressed concern about rising shoplifting, prompting the superstore to scale back its self-checkout kiosks.
“I hate small talk so much!!!” Dooly’s post continued, “I love self-checkouts. Thankfully my cashier was nice (and) didn’t make small talk.”
Under the new rules, many Walmart stores are reserving self-checkout machines for Walmart+ subscribers, leaving non-paying shoppers destined for checkout lines.
In addition to fewer self-checkout machines available, the popular superstore has begun imposing a limit on the number of items shoppers can scan at self-checkout kiosks.
Stores with item restrictions allow shoppers to purchase only 15 items or fewer at self-checkout kiosks, with some locations limiting this to just ten items or fewer.
But problems with self-checkouts aren’t the only factor discouraging Walmart customers.
Another angry shopper left her full cart at checkout after realizing the retailer doesn’t offer her preferred payment method.
Customers have come to rely on the self-service experience, often looking for a smoother shopping experience rather than having to make unwanted small talk.
Apple Pay, a digital payment method accepted at more than 85 percent of U.S. retailers, is not an accepted payment method at Walmart.
Instead, the retail giant is implementing something similar to Apple Pay, Walmart Pay, which can only be accessed within the Walmart app.
“How come Walmart doesn’t have Apple Pay?” the frustrated shopper wrote on Facebook, adding: “I left my cart there like it was y’all’s problem.”
“It’s stupid that they have Walmart Pay, just like Apple Pay, but you have to set it up (in their app),” another Facebook user commented.
“What’s the point of Walmart checkout if it never works?” said another bitter user on “X,” formerly Twitter.
Walmart CEO Doug McMillon shared why the chain hasn’t yet implemented Apple’s tap-to-pay method:
“We would like customers to open our app in the store all the time,” McMillion said, further sharing who saw Apple Pay as a competitor.
