Niklas Volkrug denied media reports indicating that a quarrel occurred between him and Kai Havertz, his teammate in the German national team, during the 2-0 victory over Peru in a friendly match on Saturday.
Media reports had stated that a quarrel broke out between Volkrug and Havertz over their desire to take a penalty kick awarded to the team in the second half.
Volkrug carried the ball and was on his way to shoot, hoping to score his third goal (a hat-trick), but Havertz was the one who shot in the end, but aimed at the post.
Havertz, the Chelsea player, succeeded in following the ball into the net, but Italian referee Maria Capote canceled the goal based on the rule that the player who took the penalty cannot touch the ball again, before another player touches it.
Volkrug said: I carried the ball to give it to Kai, he is the team’s first penalty taker.
