“I fell six feet and landed on my feet,” Alfie said.

“I was holding a pack of M&Ms and just slipped, and when I fell, the people I lived with all ran because they thought (the M&Ms) were my teeth.”

The fall left him breathless and unable to breathe for 20 seconds. Alfie had traveled to Europe last year to perform at Sochi’s ‘New Wave’ festival in Russia.

Now back in Australia, Alfie has spent the past three months in hospital recovering.

At first, he believed the accident had caused him severe back pain, but Alfie began to experience other symptoms, such as loss of sensation in his feet.

Performing then became an ordeal for the hard-working singer.

During a show in Melbourne with singer Anthony Callea, Alfie couldn’t stand for more than two minutes.

An MRI revealed he had shattered his discs in the accident, and the bone was later removed by surgery fragments.

The first surgery was unsuccessful, leaving The Voice star in agony.

“It was like I was in labor,” he said. “Not that I know what that’s like, but it was the most painful thing I’ve ever experienced in my life.”

A day after his first surgery, Alfie returned to the operating room to have disk fragments removed from his spine that were touching, causing him pain.

It comes as Alfie recently released his new single Overtime, which sheds light on mental health.

This song is about my struggle with fear. I know I’m not alone – I’ve seen so many of my music industry colleagues suffer mentally and financially during Covid – and I wanted to emphasize the importance of helping others and sharing our stories amid this collective consciousness.” , he said.
