Vizio is the newest TV maker support for AirPlay 2 from Apple, making it easy to play content from an iOS device or Mac on the larger screen and HomeKit. With HomeKit integration, people can control the TV with the Apple Home app or with Siri voice commands. Vizio has begun rolling out an update for its SmartCast 3.0 software that includes support for both, but it notes that it is a "ongoing months" process before all compatible sets are updated.
Speaking of that, Vizio far outperforms other TV manufacturers in terms of how many models in the past and present qualify for AirPlay 2 and HomeKit. SmartCast TVs from 2016 receive the two functions. Meanwhile, other companies are limiting the handy add-ons to 2019 sets or, in some cases, their last year's TVs.
LG has recently also rolled out AirPlay 2 and HomeKit to the latest models. Samsung led the package with AirPlay 2, but chose not to include HomeKit. Instead, it was the first TV maker to receive the Apple TV app, offering access to movie rentals / purchases and Apple's TV channels with subscription, including HBO.
